Lincoln College Vacation Project (VacProj)

VacProj is back this Saturday with some fun-filled events before we open up leader applications for this year!!

For those of you who don’t know, VacProj is a student-run charity based at Lincoln. Each year we run two free week-long holidays for children living in the Oxford area who are involved with social services. Then throughout the year, we run events to help fundraise for these trips – and this continues this Saturday, where we are running two events - something for everyone!

TASKMASTER !!

Throughout the day on the 11th we will be running Lincoln’s very own version of Taskmaster, based on the TV game show. You & your friends will compete as a team to complete the tasks assigned to you the quickest. You could find yourself building a tower capable of supporting a rubber duck or retrieving a citrus fruit… tasks will remain secret until the competition begins. You could even be in with a chance of winning a prize !!

Each member of your team will need to buy their own ticket here: https://fixr.co/event/taskmaster-tickets-977471428. You will then each be emailed a link, through which you can sign up as a team for a 2.5 hour slot on the day within which you will compete!

LAUNCH PARTY !!

Also taking place on Saturday 11th, from 8pm – 11pm, is our annual Launch Party – with live music & free drinks provided!!

This event is to celebrate the opening of applications (on the 12th) to volunteer as a leader on one of the VacProj trips – there will be an opportunity to learn more about what being a leader involves on the night. We’d love for as many people as possible to get involved with both Taskmaster & the launch party so that we can celebrate this amazing Lincoln charity as a community, and raise lots of money for the trips. We’ll see you there!

All the VacProj trips this year - two week-long trips and two day trips - have been completed successfully! Thank you everyone for all your support this year. We're sharing some previously unseen photos from our events to celebrate VacProj 2022 - we look forward to seeing you all next year to help fundraise for another year of VacProj!

Last year, VacProj reached its 50th anniversary, but unfortunately, due to Covid, we were unable to properly celebrate it. As such, we are holding a 50th anniversary celebration at Freuds this term. It’s an opportunity to dress up and we’ll be providing live music as well!

Date: 5th June
Time: 6pm – 10pm
Location: Freud’s Oxford
Dress code: Black tie

Tickets will cost £5 and all the money raised will be going towards supporting VacProj trips this summer and in the future. Please do extend the invitation to anyone you think would like to come, we’d love to make this a massive celebration to commemorate VacProj and its 50 years!

Auction of Promises! On Monday 9th May at 7pm in Deep Hall, we will be holding our annual Auction of Promises. How this works is people auction off promises and others bid on them - easy as that!

If you have anything you think you or your society could auction off (previous examples have included baking/ cooking, teaching someone a new skill, serenading, making bop costumes) do submit your promise here: https://forms.gle/Bf3UBWr2pANx3W3M8 and put the date in your diaries! A couple days before the auction we’ll send out a list of the promises so you can have a look and see if there’s anything you’d like. Hope to see lots of you there!

Please let us know what you'd like to donate to Vac Proj's auction of Promises! Ideas include- baking a cake, doing someone's laundry, giving a room tour, or anything else you want to promise

If you’re looking for a great way to start 8th week, why not come along on Monday evening to see the Oxford Commas perform in the Oakeshott room! At 7:30pm, in the Langford room, we’ll be having a BYOB drinks reception before the music starts at 8pm. Bring your friends, some wine, beer, or soft drink of choice and come enjoy the music! Tickets costs £5 and 90% of all money is going to support VacProj, which is such an important charity. Hi everyone, we thought we’d explain what a ceilidh is for anyone who’s not sure! It is a night of very energetic dancing (absolutely no skill required, no one ever knows what they’re doing), with a live ceilidh band who play traditional music. There will be a caller who calls out what to do, and we all attempt to follow as best we can. Lincoln ceilidhs have always been popular, they’re something that everyone gets involved in so please do come along this Saturday!! If dancing is not your thing, come along anyway to listen to the music and watch the dancing! Tickets available here:
