Our Story
What is STAR?
STAR (Student Action for Refugees) is a national charity of 26,000 students welcoming refugees to the UK. STAR is made up of over 40 groups at universities across the UK and a national team which coordinates and supports the groups. The charity is governed by STAR’s Board of Trustees, elected annually by the students.
What does STAR Oxford actually do?
- Volunteer at local refugee projects: we talk with as many community project groups as we can to see how we can volunteer with them and if we can even introduce something new to the community. Last term we started up a new project with Jacari where a student is paired with a Syrian family as well as on-call lists with the charity Asylum Welcome and an Arabic speakers’ language exchange with the Oxford Hub. And that’s just the start!
