8th Oxford Scout Group 8th Oxford (Highfield) Scout Group is based in Headington, Oxford.

We are comprised of three sections: Beavers - Meeting on Thursdays, Cubs - Meeting on Tuesdays and Scouts - Meeting on Wednesdays

A brilliant night for the Beavers tonight and a great way to round off this half term. Our theme for this week was turtles 🐢 ahead World Turtle day tomorrow. We looked at the 7 sea turtle species, their endangerment status and the difference between them and a tortoise. We made turtle mandalas and turtles from recycled bottles ♻️ Wr finished the evening by investing 4 new Beavers and handing out the badges for this half term.

Tonight the Beavers learnt all about Bees ahead of National Bee day on Saturday. We looked at the different parts of a Bees body🐝, all the different types of Bees there are (the Beavers found it very funny that Susie called Bumblebees flying teddy bears) and made honey biscuits 🍯🍪. We also celebrated 2 Beavers birthdays today 🎂

The Beavers made a start on some badge work tonight centered around recycling. They learnt about what it is have clean where and made water filters from 2ltr bottles. Amongst their amazement of the dirty water coming out alot clearer, the comment of the night would have to be 'I need to tell my science teacher about this, she needs to learn it' 🤣

We finished the evening with a look at what we can recycle at home and tasked with keep a log for a week of what they have recycled at home.
