In our last video, our Director, Katy Barron, spoke about the importance of being generous with information when labelling your photographs.

While QR codes have the advantage of allowing interested viewers to find out more about your work, they shouldn’t take the place of a label and force viewers to make an effort to find out the most basic information.

However, here she talks about how context is key, and why, on some occasions, you may just want to break that rule.

While walking around Photo London last week, we took the opportunity to look at some of the small but important details that ambitious photographers need to consider.

Here, our director Katy Barron talks through labelling conventions and the rise of QR codes, with some smart tips on how to make them work for you. You can read our complete guide to labelling on our blog which will walk you through all your need to know.

Over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing more tips and advice on the blog to help you refine and elevate your practice. We’ll be looking at framing, hanging and presentation, explaining how editioning works and what best practice is in all these areas.

Sorry about the sound – we’re working to make the next one better!

Behind the Scenes at Photo Oxford

Wondering what it’s like to join Photo Oxford as a Friend or Patron? On Wednesday we toured Christ Church library with Rare Books Librarian David Stumpp and Charles Dodgson Project Archivist Tom Duckham.

Although best known by his pen name, Lewis Carroll, Dodgson taught mathematics at Christ Church from 1855 to 1881, and was most famous as author of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

He was also a keen amateur photographer and had a photographic studio built on the roof of his rooms in Christ Church.

Among some of the treasures we saw were images from the Jon A. Lindseth Lewis Carroll collection, which includes over 100 photographs, including the striking image of Alice Liddell, daughter of the Christ Church dean, and inspiration for his much-beloved book.

Lindseth Collection Archivist, Tom Duckham, spoke about Dodgson’s photographic practice, introduced the images, and letters about the subjects and their families.

If you’d like to join us on our next exclusive tour, become a Friend or Patron of Photo Oxford.

You’ll be joining a vibrant creative community of photography enthusiasts, collectors, artists, and media professionals celebrating photography, building connections, and growing our shared knowledge.

With huge thanks to Christ Church, Tom Duckham and David Stumpp for this wonderful opportunity.
