The Archway Foundation, UK Serving those hurt by loneliness for over 30 years. Registered Charity Number: 299533 www.archwayfoundation.org.uk Archway opened the door of my cage.”

Founded in 1982 by Paul Hawgood whose vision was to serve those hurt by loneliness irrespective of religion, culture or background. Archway's inspiration and values derive from the Christian faith. A significant proportion of the individuals that contact Archway have a history of mental health problems and/or physical health issues. Many have no family or are estranged from them and have few if an

y close contacts. Loneliness is often masked by and is at the root of other difficulties. By addressing this need Archway is helping to prevent the development or exacerbation of mental health problems. Providing opportunities for those who feel excluded to experience genuine acceptance and a sense of belonging reduces the risk of further difficulties. As one person involved with Archway said “At first I felt like a prisoner in my home, then I felt like a prisoner within myself.

Loneliness can affect anyone. It has a deep impact on people’s health, wellbeing, sense of belonging, and ability to take part in community life.

This Loneliness Awareness Week, we are calling for renewed action to strengthen social connection.

Jo fought for connection throughout her life. Ten years on, the work remains urgent. We won't give up.
