🌱 Take a look at the amazing impact Fruit Patch has made!

You can support this project by coming to the Fruit Patch Apple Day Fundraiser on Sat 19 September

ID: A series of graphics. Slide 1 reads Fruit Patch Q***r Allotment Case Studies. This is Fruit Patch. Fruit Patch is an accessible community allotment where LGBTQIA+ people learn horticultural skills, improve wellbeing, and build lasting connections through growing together. "I love gardening here, I feel like I can cut loose and laugh in a way that makes me feel so in my skin." There are photos of people holding up produce and beaming. Slide 2 reads Meet Molly. What’s your role in Fruit Patch? I’m the gardening lead! I came up with the idea for Fruit Patch a few years ago, and T(ART) helped me to develop the idea and write a funding bid to start it all. It’s been amazing having their support to bring this project to life! It’s been so good for my professional development. I use my socio-therapeutic knowledge all the time in my other gardening and art workshops too! What are you proudest of? Some of our participants only leave the house for this group because nowhere else is accessible and welcoming to them - it feels so special to have created a space where they can feel part of something. Watching their passion for gardening grow, as well as their confidence, gives me such a boost. There is a photo of Molly holding an armful of weeds and smiling. Slide 3 reads Meet Rowan. How would you describe Fruit Patch? A q***r, neurodivergent/ disability friendly allotment group where we can both collaborate and learn about gardening/ food growing. My mood has improved and I've learned more about seasonal growing [...] I feel more connected to the land and to local q***r community. Why did you join Fruit Patch? I wanted to meet new people locally and I've been able to see how the space has supported the community and individual members' mental health, including my own. There is a photo of Rowan holding up a wreath and smiling. Slide 4 reads Meet Quin. Why did you join Fruit Patch? I was looking for a Q***r community event to connect me with others, close by my home and there is a focus other than just socialising to direct people, meaning conversation doesn't stagnate. [I] have a lot more confidence in gardening in my own garden as well as in leading/assisting meetups. How has Fruit Patch impacted you? It's been a good space for coming together, taught me a lot about gardening from knowing nothing at all. Fruit patch has a much more community-focused vibe than most other meetups I’ve gone to, it's good to have a space where I feel people would share food and educational resources and are very welcoming. It's given me a space
to try gardening with support and lower stakes than investing in seeds and tools for my own garden. There is a photo of an abundant vegetable bed. Slide 5 reads Meet Beth. Your Fruit Patch Journey. Fruit Patch was an amazing constant for me especially through the late Autumn / Winter. It was great for me to connect with plants etc. & others consistently through this time (especially when days are shorter and when I had quite low mood etc.) I've felt able to engage with it in different ways each time - sometimes I come to the sessions feeling super low-energy & quiet [...] However I've been feeling, I've always felt able to relax and feel calm at Fruit Patch. How would you describe Fruit Patch? Fruit Patch is a safe, supportive, and friendly q***r environment! I feel at home in the sessions. I've learnt so much about gardening / allotments, but without pressure or expectation. Fruit Patch sessions are so calming at the end of a busy week of work and help me
slow down and connect with the world & others for a bit. Fruit Patch is also amazing in terms of creating & holding space for q***r individuals! Growing up I wouldn't have necessarily felt able to participate in a community allotment or something similar, but I feel so safe & able to be me in this setting. There is a photo of Beth smiling as she paints a planter. Slide 6 reads Meet June (name has been changed for anonymity). Tell us about life before Fruit Patch. I was pretty isolated and depressed and struggling and I wasn't making healthy decisions to improve my life. It is an allotment but it is also much more than that. I would say there's a strong sense of belonging and inclusion here. How has Fruit Patch impacted you? Fruit patch has been helping to make me more confident and secure in myself. Why did you want to get involved? I think it is such a beautiful idea to have an inclusive q***r allotment here in Oxford. It is so good to build community and make connections. There is a photo of a colourful flower bed.

🤩 Find out what our community wants from a q***r community hub!

🤝 We want to build something with the incredible local community. Here is a snapshot of what people are saying!

🔎 Read the full report and have your say on our website: tartproductions.co.uk/q***rcommunityhub

ID: A series of graphics with a white background and purple text. Slide 1 reads: Community Consultation: What do the people of Oxford want from a q***r community hub? There is a collaged photo of lots of groups of q***r people smiling. Slide 2 reads We want to establish a q***r community hub in Oxford. This wouldn't replace the many fantastic LGBTQIA+ organisations already working across Oxfordshire. Instead, it will be a place to bring them together and help them thrive. We asked 103 people what they would want from a Q***r Community Hub in Oxford. Here's what they said. Slide 3 reads Is there demand? There's a bar chart with the title How important is it for Oxford to have a q***r community hub (1 being unimportant, 5 being very important)? The bar chart shows approx 80% selected 5, 17% selected 4, and 4% selected 3. Nearly four in 5 respondents rated the proposal as extremely important, while no respondents said it was unimportant. Slide 4 reads Why do people want this space? Belonging. “A sense of belonging. Knowing people there, and knowing it's a safe space”. "People just hanging out even if there's nothing on." Connection. "Just somewhere to be and meet other q***r people." "People who know my name and make me feel welcome." Community support. “support others in the community via regular groups and mutual aid, sharing resources and publishing zines” “This is so needed to community, support, and solidarity. We need a safe space”. Creativity “a space for people to gather and be creative and work together” “I want more spaces for creativity that have diversity at their heart rather than profit”. Slide 5 reads Accessibility. There is a pie chart with the title How often do you miss q***r community events because they are inaccessible to you? Almost always 5%. Often 34.7%. Sometimes 31.6%. Rarely 21.4%. Never 7.1%. 93% reported missing events because they were inaccessible. Slide 6 reads Barriers to existing spaces. Accessibility. “Lack of step-free access, no quiet space, lack of proper toilet facilities, spaces that are too hot”. Lack of information. “Lack of resources about the space before visiting struggle to go to new places without vast research”. Cost. “if you _have_ to spend money to access the space”. Loud Environments. “If they are held in a space that is too loud and I can't understand what people are saying.”. Feeling unwelcome “unclear as to whether am welcome”. Slide 7 reads What would make you feel that it had become a truly special community space? Diversity. “a sizable crowd of regular attenders, diverse in ethnicity, gender/sexuality, disability, and student/non-student status”. Busy. “A full events calendar and plenty of people just dropping in”. Slide 8 reads What would make you feel that it had become a truly special community space? Welcoming. “If it’s easy to meet people at newcomer or community events, and if there are staff that have been there for a while that you can start to recognize.” Belonging. “A sense of belonging. Knowing people there, and knowing it's a safe space.”. Slide 9 reads What would make you feel that it had become a truly special community space? Sense of community ownership. “The space feels shaped by its users and volunteers who are called in for decision making.” Slide 10 reads Read the full report on our website: tartproductions.co.uk/q***rcommunityhub. "Having something like
this when I was young would have been life-changing”. There is a photo of a colourful group of performers posing. One is in a wheelchair
