Come Wassailing with Us!
Saturday 7th February 2026
The event starts at 5pm in the Carter Institute

Around 5:45pm Eynsham Morris will lead a candlelit procession from the Carter Institute along the Causeway to the Orchard for the Wassail Ceremony.

Wassailing is a centuries-old tradition where village revellers toast the health of the orchard with mulled cider to encourage a bountiful harvest.

What to expect on 7th February:

Song & Dance: Wassail songs and Morris Dancing

Cider: Cider poured over the roots of the trees to wish them good health

Noise: Banging drums, pots and pans, to scare away evil spirits. So, bring a saucepan and wooden spoon to make lots of noise!

Toast: Pieces of toast soaked in cider hung by the children in the branches of the trees to attract good spirits, such as robins

Mulled Cider: Lots of mulled cider and apple juice to drink!

It’s free to join in. So, wrap up warm, grab a saucepan and wooden spoon and join us on 7th February!

Families welcome! All children to be accompanied by an adult please
