I feel this needs to be made public. The organisers and exhibitors of the show experienced a number of issues from the Labour controlled Oxford City Council and its staff over the previous two days.
1) They decided to drastically reduce vehicle passes for everyone connected with the fair, many showmen were only allowed two instead of one some weren't issued any at all. As the show is concerned this is key towards putting on a good show as we can. So we were allowed only six passes instead of the 20 we were given the previous two years. As a result we had three withdrawals including the model Skid which was to be our headline new attraction.
2) Some exhibitors during the course of the day (particularly in Woodstock Road) were verbally abused and threatened with parking tickets while parked in clearly labelled "Permit Holders" areas with their permits clearly displayed and another was given verbal while loading his car to go home. We do not condone the behaviour by the wardens.
The city council is vast becoming anti-motorist particularly with the impending clean-air free zones and proposed "bus gates" for inner city roads.
Due to the amount of hassle this has generated the show's future is now under threat. The St Giles' Church, enjoy welcoming us, Capital Funfairs want us to continue. We just hope this does not put off regular exhibitors attending and attracting newcomers. We will be having discussions on how to move forward and sustain its future.
