Oxford Students for Global Health warmly welcomes you to our talk on aritificial intelligence and how we may use it to predict pandemics and manage outbreaks happening on Tuesday 19th May, 6pm (location TBC).

We are delighted that this will be delivered by Dphil student Joseph Tsui, who’s research interest focuses on the epidemiological and evolutionary processes of infectious diseases and developing new phylodynamic techniques to understand how these processes interact.

We can’t wait to see you there!

OSfGH warmly welcome you to our event ‘Decolonial Medicine in Research and Clinical Practice’ on Friday 8th May, 7pm (online).

We hopes this event will spark debate and discussion with a particular focus on how we implement decolonial practices.

Leading the session is Dr Amali Lokugamage, a consultant OBGYN and honorary associated professor at UCL where she has been involved in diversifying and decolonising the medical curriculum since 2016. She has also been involved in human rights in childbirth since 2014 and has authored articles on the disproportionate maternal mortality in ethnic minorities.

Here is our speaker reveal for our panel next Wednesday! If you’ve ever wondered why the NHS has been on the decline, what other countries systems look like and the logistics of universal health coverage, come along to hear the discussion and ask questions! You can find more about our speakers below:

Ulana Suprun is the former minister for Ukraine and is one of the longest serving ministers in the role. She has a background in biology and medicine and has practiced in the US and in Ukraine. In Ukraine she practiced medicine in order to help protesters during the Euromadian protests and also started the patriots defence which is an organisation that trained soldiers and civilians in tactical medicine.

Having studied natural sciences at the University of Cambridge, Rob Yates now stands as a political health economist and recently held the role of Director of the Global Health programme at Chatham house. His work has covered multiple continents from Africa to Asia, giving advice on how to finance successful health care systems.

Professor Bruce Biccard is the newly appointed Nuffield Professor of Anaesthetic Science. An anaesthetist by training, his research spans global surgery and perioperative outcomes with a particular focus on improving patient outcomes in Africa. He is the director of the Arican Perioperative Research Group, a collaborative network spanning 36 countries and more than 2,000 investigators which has published landmark studies on surgical, maternal, and paediatric outcomes, workforce and surgical training, and surgical health management systems.

See you there!
