Last night, our charity was delighted to support the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust 2026 Annual Staff Recognition Awards 💕

This year’s event was hosted by the wonderful Alex Kingston, best known for her roles as River Song in Doctor Who and Dr Elizabeth Corday in ER.

The awards are always a special occasion, celebrating the outstanding achievements of staff, volunteers and supporters across the John Radcliffe, Churchill, NOC, Horton General and Oxford Children’s Hospital.

There was a wonderful sense of joy and celebration in the room as colleagues, friends and supporters came together to recognise those who consistently go above and beyond.

The event began with a fantastic performance from the Horton Power Choir, who filled the auditorium with singing and applause, followed by another wonderful musical performance from Singing Sally.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate an individual or team. It was clear how much the recognition meant to everyone involved.

We would also like to thank the incredible group of OUH staff who organised this special event, as well as all the amazing volunteers who attended. It was wonderful to see so many of you there.

A standout moment for us was the Oxford Hospitals Charity Supporter/Volunteer of the Year Award.

The finalists - Oxford Orcas, Tara Sullivan, Breast Care Buddies and Kate Wilkinson, were all recognised for their outstanding fundraising or volunteering efforts.

Our congratulations go to Tara Sullivan, who received the award for her incredible fundraising support in memory of her son, Harvey.

Alongside her husband, Jack, Tara has taken part in fundraising events including our Skydive and Half Marathon. Together, they have also rallied the Wallingford community to raise vital funds, which will help create a new teenage space on Kamran’s Ward.

A huge congratulations to all the finalists and winners. Thank you for everything you do to support our hospitals and patients. 💙

What happens when a team of paediatric anaesthetists and nurses from the John Radcliffe Hospital swap operating theatres for mountains?

Last month, Asaker, Bianca, Chandrika, Naresh and Lisa took on the National Three Peaks Challenge, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in under 24 hours!

They were spurred on to raise money for Oxford Hospitals Charity in support of the Children’s Hospital.

The team covered hundreds of miles between each peak and tackled the mountainous terrain on very little sleep to beat the 24-hour deadline.

From traffic delays and aching knees to the odd slip, they were in a race against the clock, and the challenge tested them physically and mentally from start to finish, with plenty of moments when it felt rather ‘overwhelming’.

But the team’s determination, sense of humour, and motivation to help young patients in our hospitals kept them going.

Lisa said: “Every blister, sore muscle and sleepless hour was worth it to help make a difference.

“Whenever things felt tough, we reminded ourselves why we were doing it. Nothing we experienced compares to what the incredible children and families we care for face every day.

“The absolute highlight for me was the scenery. We were incredibly lucky with the weather, and apparently it is quite unusual to have such a clear view from midway up to the summit of Ben Nevis. The views were breathtaking and made all the hard work worthwhile. Climbing Scafell Pike in the dark felt like a real adventure too; it was challenging but also something quite special that I'll never forget.

Please join us in sharing huge congratulations to the team for completing this amazing challenge and for raising over £3,000 for Oxford Hospitals Charity.

They did it! A huge thank you to our two incredible teams from our Oxford hospitals who took on the Endure24 Challenge in Reading last weekend in support of Oxford Hospitals Charity.

Endure24 is the UK's largest 24-hour relay race, and this year's event threw everything at our runners – mud, hills and relentless rain. Despite the challenging conditions, Team Critical Miles and Wait for Me Willis showed remarkable determination, teamwork and resilience throughout the day and night.

Team Critical Miles, made up of Florian, one of the Divisional Directors of Nursing, Rachel, Paediatric Acute Team Lead Physiotherapist, and friend Paul, ran in support of the Paediatric Critical Care Unit, to help fund specialist equipment, enhanced support and improved facilities for critically ill children and their families.

Rachel said: “We are so grateful to everyone who backed us along the way and to all who donated so generously, helping us raise nearly £7,000 for Children’s Critical Care. This was not just about endurance; it was about running for those who need it most.”

Meanwhile, the brilliantly named "Wait for Me Willis" team was made up of Kumi, Catherine, Natalie and Hannah from the Neuroscience Unit at the JR, Helen, a community physiotherapist, Angelica from the Oxford Centre for Enablement and friend Liam, who all ran for the Neuroscience Unit and Oxford Major Trauma Centre.

They ran to raise money to support patients whose lives have been transformed by neurological illness or injury, and the dedicated staff who care for them every day.

Together, both teams trained for months, battled tough conditions and even overcame injuries to complete this epic challenge.

Well done to everyone who took part in the challenge -your fundraising efforts will make a real difference to patients, families and staff across our hospitals. 💙

🌊💙 Channel Swim for Oxford Hospitals Charity 💙🌊

Rich was joined by Sarah Vaccari, Head of Communications at Oxford Hospitals Charity, to talk about an incredible challenge she and her team are taking on – a Channel Swim relay from Dover to Calais! 🏊‍♀️

They’re braving jellyfish, freezing waters, and no wetsuits – all to raise £30,000 for the Paediatric Critical Care Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital. A cause close to Sarah’s heart, this epic swim will help support families facing the toughest of times 💛

Shoutout to Breckon & Breckon and Minoli Tiles for sponsoring the team – meaning every penny raised goes directly to the charity.

Just look at these smiles...💙

We’re delighted to bring more sunshine and smiles to the Oxford Children’s Hospital, in partnership with our good friends at Spread a Smile Charity.

We have now funded more specialist entertainment sessions for young patients at the Oxford Children’s Hospital, doubling the provision of therapeutic entertainment across the Oxford Children’s Hospital at the John Radcliffe.

Professional entertainers give one-to-one sessions with children, sharing their favourite musicals and pop songs, magic, art and bubble play – with each session tailored to the child’s individual needs and interests.

Kelly Osborne, whose 12-year-old son Jenson spent three months in hospital following gastro surgery, praised the support, saying: “It’s amazing seeing him so happy. Jenson is a long-term patient, so for him, having these sessions is really important – they make his week!

“It’s good to have someone non-medical who isn’t doing a procedure, just having fun with him. After the sessions have taken place, he tells everyone about them. He just loves them.

“I’m so appreciative of this extra support from the charities; it really makes such a difference to families like ours. It’s amazing.”
