🎉 MIXY Youth Bash - what a journey! What will you miss most?

From skateboarding, scooters and creative activities to hot chocolate, friendships and plenty of messing about, MIXY Youth Bash at Mixenden Activity Centre - MAC has given local young people a place to be themselves, try new things and make memories.

Over 30 sessions:
📊 188 young people registered
🙌 More than 1,600 attendances
📍 93% of registrations came from the local HX2 postcode area

But the MAC has always been about more than the numbers. It’s been a place to belong, make friends, get creative and have fun in a safe, welcoming space.

To all the young people and families who have been part of MIXY Youth Bash, thank you for helping make it so special. And a huge thank you to everyone who helped make it happen.

We’ll miss the laughs, the energy and the memories. It wouldn't have been MIXY Youth Bash without you all! ❤️

Keep singing. Keep connecting.😘

Every week, Josie from Singing Mamas Todmorden has brought people together at Mixenden Activity Centre - MAC to sing, share time and enjoy being part of Mixenden Wellbeing Choir.

In this video, Josie and choir member Steve who works at YPASS (A young person's support service, and part of Horton Housing Association) talk about what the choir means to local people of all ages and how the end of NHP’s activities at MAC will affect the community.

We’re doing all we can to work with all valued partners and help groups explore alternative venues, so local people can continue to enjoy the activities and connections that matter to them.

A heartfelt thank you to Josie and everyone in Mixenden who has been part of positive activities like this, and helped make MAC such an important part of community life.

NHP's activities at MAC may be coming to an end, but our commitment to the people of Mixenden will continue.

🚲 Thank you to Sam, and the Bike Co-op

Since The Bike Co-op (formerly Active Travel) opened at Mixenden Activity Centre - MAC in September 2025, it’s made a real difference for local people - helping them try something new, learn skills and build confidence.

Here’s what’s been achieved:
🔧 158 bike repairs for Mixenden residents
🚲 46 bikes loaned to local residents
🎨 23 bikes customised for local young people
🛠️ 5 residents supported towards advanced bike maintenance certification
🙌 31 Youth Bash sessions, engaging over 60 young people from Mixenden

Central to this activity has been Sam Lionheart, NHP’s Active Travel Coordinator.
His enthusiasm, patience and hands-on work with local kids have helped them build skills, confidence and a love of cycling. He’s made a real difference to many young people.

The Co-op has welcomed people of different ages, abilities and experience, making cycling more accessible and bringing the community together.

As NHP’s activities at MAC come to an end this week, we’re incredibly proud of what’s been achieved with - and for - Mixenden.

Thank you to Sam, everyone who took part, our volunteers and all who helped make it happen. Watch out for future bike pop-ups and events in Mixenden and Ovenden! 🚲❤️

🎉 Join us at Mixenden Activity Centre - MAC, for the Mixy Youth Bash FAREWELL PARTY! 🎉

Next week marks our 30th MIXY Youth Bash session since the MAC re-opened, and what a lot of fun, friendships and memories we’ve shared!

MIXY Youth Bash has provided a welcoming space for young people to meet, build friendships, enjoy activities and channel their energy positively, right here in their community.

Across our sessions, 188 young people signed up, with 1,544 attendances - and 93% of registrations came from the Mixenden (HX2) postcode. To all the young people and families who have been part of this event, thank you for helping make it special. ❤️

Come along for one final bash as we celebrate what MIXY has meant to our community!

🍵 Join us for our FINAL MAC Community Kitchen! ❤️

Next week marks our 52nd Community Kitchen since reopening at Mixenden Activity Centre - MAC - the equivalent of a whole year of weekly get-togethers! 🥰

Together, in association with our wonderful Staying Well Calderdale team, we have served over 2,100 free meals, with 202 people registered and 80% of attendees from Mixenden and North Halifax.

Celebrating what we’ve achieved together at MAC 🥳

During NHP’s time managing Mixenden Activity Centre - MAC, MAC has been about so much more than a building or a programme of activities. It has been a welcoming, local space where people of all ages can meet others, make friends and feel part of their community.

From activities, events, the Bike Co-op and community meals to youth clubs, partnerships and opportunities to access support, MAC has brought people together in many different ways.

It has helped people build friendships and feel less isolated, given young people positive things to do close to home, and provided a shared space where organisations could connect with residents and offer help and support.

Here are just two examples of what this has meant in practice, since reopening in August 2025:
🎉 MIXY Youth Bash: 1,544 attendances across 28 sessions, with 188 young people signed up. 93% of registrations were from the Mixenden (HX2) postcode.
🍲 Community Kitchen: 2,088 free meals served across 50 sessions, with 202 people registered. 80% of attendees were from Mixenden and North Halifax.

Behind these figures are positive friendships, experiences and connections that really matter - all happening in a community space close to home for many local people.

We’re incredibly proud of what our staff, volunteers, partners and the community have helped create at MAC. Thank you to everyone who has been part of it.

Following the disappointing news that the proposed transfer of Mixenden Activity Centre - MAC to North Halifax Partnership (NHP) will not proceed, all services operating at the MAC will come to an end on Friday 23rd October 2026, when the centre will close its doors.

We need to return the keys to the building by Friday 20th November. Sadly, the time required to relocate staff and services, move equipment and clear the premises, means we must bring activities to a close in time for that deadline.

NHP are working closely with our valued partners to help groups and services explore alternative venues, so that local people of all ages can continue to access the activities and support they have grown to rely on.

At present, no plans for the centre's future have been communicated to us.

We're deeply saddened by this outcome, but immensely proud of what has been achieved at the MAC - the friendships, shared meals, activities, support, partnerships and sense of belonging that made it much more than a building.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of MAC and helped make it such a special place for the community.

NHP's commitment to Mixenden will continue by delivering our valued family and community services in the area, working towards our vision of a better future for all generations.

We’re very sad to share that North Halifax Partnership’s time managing Mixenden Activity Centre - MAC will come to an end in the coming weeks.

NHP put forward a thorough business case for MAC through the Community Asset Transfer (CAT) process. We have now been informed a political decision has been made not to proceed with the proposed transfer to NHP.

We’re disappointed by this decision, but immensely proud of what has been achieved.

MAC has never just been about the activities. It has been about the people who walk through the door - the friendships made, familiar faces, shared meals, conversations, laughter and having somewhere to belong.

It has provided local groups with a space to meet, build partnerships and develop new opportunities, while giving young people positive things to do and get involved in.

We’ll work closely with regular users over the coming weeks to help ensure no one is left without the connections and activities they rely on.

All Wards in Calderdale have an annual Ward Forum grants budget of £5000 per financial year. Applications are invited year-round from all wards for projects which address one or more of the Calderdale Council Vision 2034 themes:
❤️Reducing inequalities
❤️Thriving towns and places
❤️Climate action
❤️Sustainable and effective Council

What Do We Fund?
Voluntary, Community & Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisations can apply for up to £500.
The applying organisation must be based in Calderdale and the project must benefit people who live in, work in or visit Calderdale in the specified ward.

Last year we funded Whitehill Allotments in Illingworth to be able to refurbish their main cabin prior to secure it from the weather!⛈️
