Oswestry Community Action is an Oswestry-based charity providing arts, community transport, volunteering & other community projects.

Oswestry Community Action (OCA), otherwise known as Qube, is a charity which aims to positively impact health and wellbeing and improve the quality of life for people in Shropshire and the Borderlands. OCA began as Oswestry Helpmates in 1989 with an ethos of access to services for all. Our services have been developed over time in response to local need such as rural poverty and lack of opportunities. We offer a wide range of meaningful initiatives to serve the people of Oswestry and the surrounding areas, including community transport, volunteering opportunities, community well-being groups and a fully accessible creative space for arts and workshops. Ultimately, we want our visitors to come and see us, feel safe and understood, and have a team on hand to support their needs and any additional requirements.

Did you know that OCA helps bring local organisations and services together through our Community Connectors Network?

The network is a great way for organisations offering health and wellbeing activities or support to share information, make connections and reach other services across Shropshire.

Our Community Connectors Network ebulletin is sent every two weeks and shares health and wellbeing activities, services and opportunities from across the county.

Even better, the ebulletin currently reaches more than 700 people around Shropshire!

Whether you’re new to computers, want to learn how to use your smartphone or simply feel like you could do with a little more confidence online, our Digital Skills Programme could help.

We understand that digital technology is important and that's why our sessions are designed to help you develop your digital skills, to feel feel more comfortable using technology for everyday tasks, whilst being safe when you're doing it!

There’s no need to feel embarrassed about asking questions, we all have to start somewhere!

Find us at Oswestry Library!

While our Market Gate Office is no longer public facing, our commitment to supporting our local community remains the same.

We’re now holding regular OCA pop-up sessions at Oswestry Library, giving you the chance to come and speak to our team in person, ask questions and find out more about the services and support we offer.

Our pop-ups take place every first Wednesday and third Friday of the month.

We're celebrating the power of books as part of our support for the 2026 Year of Literacy.

Reading is much more than just turning pages and we want to shine a spotlight on the many benefits of reading. It can help us relax, boost our wellbeing, expand our knowledge and connect us with new ideas and experiences.

We didn't quite know how powerful reading was either until we explored some of the evidence-backed benefits highlighted by The Reading Agency.

As its Breast Cancer Awareness Day, we thought it was the perfect time to remind you of the Cancer Champions programme, that we work on in partnership with Lingen Davies Cancer Support .

The Cancer Champions project encourages people to have conversations about how they can spot the signs of cancer, attend their cancer screening appointments and also seek help should they need it.

Event reminder: October Menopeer Session

Join us this Thursday for a relaxed and welcoming session which will explore how restorative practices can support better sleep, calm and wellbeing during menopause.

Hosted by local wellbeing practitioner S-C Peace of Peaceful Warrior Wellbeing, the session will introduce Essential Nidra, mindful movement, guided restoration and practical tools to help soothe the nervous system and find greater ease during this time of change.

Come along to our Infant Feeding Peer Support Groups!

Whether you're looking for support, want to learn more about infant feeding, or simply fancy meeting other families who are at the same stage as you, our Infant Feeding Peer Support Groups are a great place to start.

Over the coming months, we'll be hosting our regular groups alongside attending a range of collaborative events with Health Visiitors, baby groups and other charities, creating even more opportunities for families to connect, share experiences and access support.

Cancer Champions: Breast Awareness

This month, our Cancer Champions were invited to an informative Breast Awareness Session with Breast Cancer Now.

The session covered:
• Ways to reduce the risk of breast cancer
• Signs and symptoms to look out for
• Breast screening across our region
• Common myths and misconceptions around breast screening

We were also joined by a Health Improvement Practitioner Specialist from Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, who shared valuable information about local breast screening.

Looking ahead, hundreds of people across the area will be taking part in the Lingen Davies ‘Titty Trail’ next month — a 10.5-mile walk highlighting the importance of screening and raising funds for local cancer services.

Our Cancer Champions can make a real difference to people’s lives by helping to raise awareness and share important health information within their communities.
