The Inters*x Flag!

This flag was created in 2013 by Morgan Carpenter of Inters*x Human Rights Australia. There are 2 main themes behind the flag. Firstly, the 2 colours being yellow and purple were specifically chosen as they are the most commonly ungendered colours which have also been commonly used to represent inters*x individuals throughout history. Secondly, the circle was chosen not only as a symbol that doesn't represent any gender as well as also being a way to show that inters*x individuals are not only whole but also not broken people needing to be fixed. Not everyone who are clinically inters*x relate to or want to use the label but there are also plenty of people who do and for the reason of it being outside the binary of s*x is why it is important to be included in pride.

Meet the performers week 5!
We are lucky enough to have more performers to announce!

Bear And Chlo: A couple doing a cabaret style performance involving lip syncing, physical comedy and live singing. One of us is a drag queen and the other is trained in musical theatre. There would be a couple of prop-based jokes leading up to a performance of 'Don't Rain on my Parade.'

Do you know about the Nonbinary Flag?

The flag was created in 2014 by Kyle Rowan after a noticeable lack of a flag for individuals who do not feel like the genderq***r flag correctly represented them. The colour purple was deliberately chosen as a lavender shade due to the vast history of lavender and gay individuals. There has only been one edit to the flag which was slightly changing the white colour to a slightly more cream colour specifically called "cosmic latte" which was a colour named after being recognised as the most vastly perceived colour in the universe to the human eye.

Do you know about the As*xual flag?
there are many people who don't understand why we include the lack of s*xual attraction into the LGBTQ+ community as it is the lack of s*xual attraction and therefore cannot face prejudice right? Wrong!
Many individuals who identify as as*xual have faced many forms of oppressions that are very similar to the rest in the LGBTQ+ community. Including within the community itself which is why we are putting an emphasis on why it is so vital that they are accepted within Oswestry Pride.
The flag was first created in 2010 with a collaborative effort from both AVEN and other websites to find what everyone in the community wanted included. The flag has stayed the same ever since then. There has been another rendition made within recent weeks which has sparked many debates which will be a great topic for a later date!

The Gay Man Flag
This flag came to be after there was a noticeable lack of a flag for men who love men. So in 2019 a Tumbler user decided to start a community lead design for one.

Also called the MLM flag (male loving men) it is made with a purpose of representing any man who loves other men; this includes bis*xual and pan men as well as trans men and q***r men. This was a purposeful move to be inclusive and show representation.
It became popular fast and for good reason! The message behind it, the visibility as well as the representation of all men makes this flag one that did not go through many changes or have an expansive history, but a good flag all the same.

Le***an Pride Flag
Have you ever wondered why Le***an is at the beginning of the LGBTQ+ acronym? Or the
origin of the word? The more you look into the history of it the more fascinating it appears
Firstly, the word comes from a double translation starting with the name of a Greek island
called Le**os which was translated to Latin as Lesbios. It is theorised to have originally
meant wooded and was the home of Sappho who was a renowned poet who was famous for
expressing attraction towards women as well as men. There are many documented cases of
homos*xuality in the ancient Greek world however this is one of the most well known in
regards to homos*xual relations in women.
Whilst used as a word throughout English history with many different meanings, it wasn't
coined as a noun until the 1870s.
As for the reason it goes first in the acronym, this is due to the le***an community being the
ones who stood up for and helped those suffering the most in the AIDS epidemic in the 80’s.
There was a big fear that something as simple as brushing up against a gay person could
cause it to transfer to you and for this reason many people would avoid going near anyone
who was either gay or who was suffering with aids. Whilst the aids epidemic was heavily
prevalent in the q***r community it was due to fear mongering as it was not only gay men
who were susceptible to it.
At a time when nobody else would fight for them or help treat them, the le***an community
took a stand to not only defend gay and trans people but also treat and care for those who
otherwise were not given the care needed through the devastating epidemic. As a token of
appreciation it was chosen that the L should go at the beginning of the acronym as not only
a token of appreciation but also as a token of thanks for standing up for others in the
community when nobody else would.
