Orkney marks the absolute northernmost location to receive our Sakura trees. 🌸 They are now officially rooted across 5 beautiful islands: the Mainland, Sanday, Eday, Shapinsay, and Stronsay.

We cannot wait to watch them grow, flourish, and bloom for many years to come, bringing a little piece of Japan all the way north! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇯🇵🌳

From everyone at the Sakura Project, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to the Orkney Japan Association for taking such wonderful care of the 30 flowering Japanese cherry trees we gifted. 🌸

This year we planted over 1,800 trees across the UK - from the Scilly Isles to Orkneys! 🌸we’ve just added all the new Sakura trees planted this year to our website’s map. 🌸 Check the link in bio.

Our committee gathered with the Japan Association & Women’s Choir to celebrate the success of last month’s Sakura Matsuri. Thank you to everyone who supported us!

Thank you for a wonderful celebration !

Here is just a small bit of Professor Emma Hunt, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Falmouth University’s speech:

“We are delighted to plant these beautiful cherry trees on our campuses in Falmouth and Penryn. These trees will not only enhance spaces enjoyed by students, staff and our local community, but also represent international friendship, reflection and renewal for generations of students and visitors to come.”
