Day 5, Final Day Completed.
What a day, don't even know where to begin.
7.15am, we met up at McCullagh's Classic Service Station in Omagh and set off at 7.30am.
This was a more relaxed cycle for John, as it was just getting to the finishing point at Malin Head, Donegal. A few more rest stops were added in also. John was joined and supported on the final day by his good friends Sean Devlin, Peter O'Donnell and Albert Law, who took on the miles with him to Malin Head.
The 1st short stop was at Milltown Service Station outside Newtownstewart followed by breakfast at Lifford. From there we moved on to Bridge End for another short rest stop. The weather was dry up to here, as we left here heading to Buncrana we had a few showers along the way but nothing major. Next stop was Clonmany, leaving here the wind started to pick up leaving the final stage of the cycle more challenging. We made our way to Malin Town where John, Sean, Peter and Albert got their final rest and energy stop before cycling the final 8 miles to the top of Malin Head. At this stage the winds were picking up, with head on and side winds hitting them. We took the es**rt van in front of them to shelter them a bit from the head on wind but they still got a hit from the side. As we approached the open sea front part of the route, one of the cyclists got blew of his bike with the wind, thankfully he only recieved minor injuries and we got him cleaned up.
Next stop was Malin Head where John was meet by family, friends and committee members of Together With Solace.
An outstanding 5 day challenge to say the least.
Thanks also to Roy who gave up his time to take supporters down to the finish.
The 5 days from Mizen Head, Cork To Malin Head, Donegal, we were fed and watered at each rest stop during the day by other support crew Philomena and Dessie, you were both absolutely brilliant and outstanding, food was ready and everything was kept to a schedule.
Someone else who needs thanked is Bernie, you made sure each day stayed as stress free as possible for everyone and kept me company along each days route in the van. The laughs we all had about them scary bridges and roads lol 😂 🤣
Lastly, the main man himself John, thank you so much for choosing Together With Solace as your charity for this challenge. You are an inspiration to anyone.
A few days now for us all to recover and we do a final overall update on the full 5 days put together.
Thanks to everyone who has donated, sponsored and helped John in any way over the last few months.
The fundraising link will be open for another week or so to recieve donations.
