In the rural community of Katungulu, Uganda, we're helping young people, out of education or work since the pandemic, to undertake practical training for twelve months with local experts and artisans. 56 young women and men are learning tailoring, building, welding, barbering, hairdressing and vehicle mechanics. They're currently working towards gaining national qualifications in their chosen trades. They are also making friends and growing daily in confidence and hope for the future.

What if £10 a month could help change the trajectory of a young person’s life? In Kenya, our 'Bright Futures' project is helping young people with learning disabilities transition from school into adult life with skills, confidence and income.
Faith’s small start with a few chickens and one goat has grown into a thriving enterprise supporting her family. But there are many more young people like her waiting for that same opportunity.
By becoming a regular giver, your monthly donation could help:
• Equip teachers with practical training in school-to-home transition
• Enable families to have sustainable livelihoods
• Provide start-up grants for income-generating activities
• Create bright futures for young people with learning disabilities.
Regular giving means steady support. Steady support means lasting change. Will you join us and help another young person begin their journey toward purpose and confidence?

When a special needs teacher in rural Kenya asked a different question, everything began to change for her students. Read on to find out how ...
After receiving specialist training provided by Advantage Africa, Monicah began looking at her students’ futures differently.
Instead of asking what her student Faith, who has learning disabilities, couldn’t do, she asked 'What does Faith love doing?'
The answer? - Caring for chickens and rabbits.
With family support and a small start-up grant from Advantage Africa, she assisted Faith to leave school and begin rearing chickens and goats in the family's garden.
Less than a year later, that small beginning has grown into a thriving flock of 80 birds. So successful is this project that her father closed his own business (a local bar) to focus fully on farming.
Today, Faith supplies chickens and eggs to families in her village. She is confident, busy and contributes to her family’s income.
Her mother says: 'It was just the idea and the small start that we needed. Faith is always busy. This project has brought happiness to our whole family. I give it 100%.'
To everyone who supports our work and projects like this one - thank you.
You are helping young people with learning disabilities move beyond school to live independent lives, filled with purpose, dignity and opportunities to make an income.

It's a busy time of year. And we're not talking about Christmas!
In the last few weeks we and our partners in Kenya and Uganda have been taking part in:

- Training for carers of children with cerebral palsy (thank you Motivation).
- Training and medication for people with epilepsy.
- World AIDS Day.
- International Day of Disabled Persons.
- A sitting volleyball tournament.
- Visits to refugee settlements to support people with albinism to access healthcare, food and education.

All these joyful activities demonstrate love in action and bring real hope - and Isn’t that what Christmas is all about?

In this short film, our colleague Agnes Musembi tells the extraordinary story of how her life changed when aged six, she trod on a snake when walking to school.

Agnes has devoted her life to supporting people with disabilities in her home area of Kenya through the organisation she founded, the Kibwezi Disabled Persons' Organisation (KDPO).

All funds from our Christmas Appeal at https://www.advantageafrica.org/Christmas will support KDPO's life-changing work providing fitted wheelchairs and other appliances to people with disabilities.

One of the things we value most at Advantage Africa is the way our local partners like the Kibwezi Disabled Persons’ Organisation (KDPO), seek out people who might otherwise be overlooked.

In remote villages, down dusty tracks, and in communities where disability is hidden or misunderstood, members of the KDPO team meet families, listen to their stories, and gently build trust. They find children and adults who have been isolated for years, lacking opportuniites and unable to reach their potential.

This is how change begins: with a knock on the door, a conversation, a caring presence.

We're so grateful for partners like KDPO with big, compassionate hearts. Together, we can bring hope to people who've been left behind for too long.
