The Baby Betsy Campaign

The Baby Betsy Campaign The 'baby Betsy Campaign' has been launched to create a better awareness of stillbirth and to highlight the importance of reporting reduced fetal movements

Despite advances in obstetrics and medical technology 1 in 200 babies after 24 weeks gestation are stillborn in the UK with two thirds of these stillbirths being 'unexplained'. There is currently some amazing research being undertaken to find the reasons why these babies die and to find ways of detecting the babies which are at the highest risk of stillbirth but until the results of these studies

are available all we can do is provide education.....the 'Baby Betsy Campaign' aims to do just that! According to the Royal College of Obs & Gynae (2011) approx 55% of the women who suffer a tragic stillbirth will have a perceived reduction in fetal movements in the days prior to diagnosis. Reduced fetal movements is therefore strongly associated with stillbirth yet sadly women often don't report a reduction in their baby's movements until it is too late. This campaign therefore aims to educate women of the importance of reporting a reduction in fetal movements as soon as possible. So, for anybody who is pregnant.........BE AWARE OF YOUR BABY'S MOVEMENTS AND REPORT A REDUCTION TO YOUR MATERNITY UNIT WITHOUT DELAY.
