Last Thursday Alistair Webster KC (Class of 1971) once again hosted a fabulous dinner for HGS alumni at The Garrick Club London.

Alumni from the 1960s through to the 2020s attended and shared memories of their time at HGS whilst enjoying some fabulous food and wine.

A wonderful evening. Thank you to Alistair and all those who joined us.

Remembering Andy Kershaw (Class of 1978)

​We are saddened to hear of the passing of former pupil and broadcaster Andy Kershaw.

​A member of the Class of 1978, Andy became a singular voice in British media. He was widely respected for his work at BBC Radio 1 and Radio 3, where he became a pioneering champion of world music, and for his fearless reporting as a multi-award-winning journalist.

​His contribution to the landscape of British broadcasting was immense, and his influence on music and journalism will be long remembered.

​Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.

The broadcaster was known for his eclectic taste and for helping champion world music on BBC Radio 1.

🏆 Champions, Record-Breakers, and World-Class Talent! 🏆

It has been an incredible Spring term for sport at Hulme Grammar School! With over 275 pupils competing in 200+ fixtures, the "Hulmeian" spirit has been on full display from the local courts to national arenas.

From our U13 Netballers taking 3rd in the National ISA competition to our U14 Boys Footballers being crowned ISA North Champions, the achievements just keep coming. We also celebrate individual excellence, including a Muay Thai World Champion and a PSG Academy selection! 🥊⚽️

From the Chamber Road to Wall Street. 🗽

It’s always a proud moment to see our alumni thriving on the global stage, but even prouder when they take the time to give back to the next generation of Hulmeians.

A huge thank you to Nilen Vyas (Class of 2011) for meeting-up with our students in New York on a recent school trip.

Hearing first-hand about the world of global finance, drawing on Nilen's experience at UBS, Credit Suisse and RBS is an invaluable experience for our pupils and a testament to the strength of the Hulme network, no matter the distance. 🤝

Seven decades, one room. 🥂

​We spent the last few days going through the photos from last week’s Alumni Gala Dinner, and one thing is clear: the most permanent part of Hulme Grammar School isn't the stone walls, the classrooms or the Main Hall, it’s the people.

​We saw those from the Class of 1962 to our most recent leaver in 2020, seeing these friendships continue to thrive right back where they started is exactly why we do this.

This week, we were delighted to continue the John Budding Lecture Series at Hulme Grammar School with a visit from Andy Porter (Class of 1980), Professor of Medical Biotechnology at University of Aberdeen. 🔬

Andy spent time with students discussing how his Hulme Grammar School experience set him up for a future in research and entrepreneurship. Recalling how botanical lessons in Biology set him on his path into biological research. 🌼

Returning to school Andy recalled the Squash teams, the matches against MGS and the Prefect room where staff were not allowed to enter!

Thank you, Andy, for inspiring our students and sharing some magnificent stories. Many alumni will get to enjoy Andy's other business Whitebox Cocktails at the Alumni dinner next week 🍸
