A huge thank you to Cadets Harrison, Uma and Alex, alongside our Junior Training Officer PPO. (SCC) Hodgin and Unit Secretary Mr. Lowe, who spent today supporting the Help for Heroes stand ๐Ÿ‘

By volunteering their time, our team helped raise awareness of the incredible work carried out by Help for Heroes in supporting veterans, serving personnel and their families. Opportunities like this are incredibly important to us as they allow our cadets to engage with the wider Armed Forces community, develop their confidence and communication skills, and give something back to those who have served our country! ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

We are proud to support organisations such as Help for Heroes and to play our part in recognising the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces, both past and present.

Well done to everyone involved for being fantastic ambassadors for the unit and the Sea Cadet Corps.

๐Ÿšจ A Lifesaving Addition for Oldham โ›‘๏ธ

Weโ€™re delighted to announce that Oldham Unit now has its very own Automated External Defibrillator (AED), made possible thanks to a generous donation.

An AED can make the difference between life and death in the event of a cardiac arrest, providing vital assistance before emergency services arrive. Having this equipment readily available within our community helps ensure that we are better prepared to respond when every second counts.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the donor for their generosity and commitment to supporting the safety and wellbeing of local people. This donation will have a lasting impact and could one day help save a life.

Thank you for helping to make Oldham a safer place for everyone! โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Supporting Armed Forces Day 2026 โš“๏ธ

Today, our cadets Freddie, Christopher, George and Logan along with our friends at Oldham Air Cadets proudly represented the unit at Manchester Victoria Station as part of celebrations leading up to Armed Forces Day.

The cadets joined friends and partners from Walking With The Wounded, Northern, TransPennine Express, Amulet, Royal British Legion and the Samaritans, helping to engage with members of the public and raise awareness of the Armed Forces community.

Armed Forces Day is an important opportunity to recognise and thank the serving personnel, veterans, reservists, cadet forces and military families who contribute so much to our nation. It provides a chance for communities to come together, show their support, and learn more about the sacrifices and dedication of those connected to the Armed Forces.

A huge well done to Freddie, Christopher, George and Logan for representing Sea Cadets with pride, professionalism and enthusiasm throughout the day.

๐Ÿ† Well done to Team Darwin, who came out on top in last monthโ€™s Tide Points standings!

Tide Points are awarded throughout the month for attendance, smart uniform standards, participation, teamwork, and demonstrating the values of Sea Cadets. Team Darwin consistently led the way and deservedly claimed the top spot.

As their reward, the team enjoyed a well-earned Afternoon Tea at Stand Easy with the Boss! โ˜•๐Ÿฐ

To make the achievement even more special, Team Darwin was also home to our Cadet of the Month, JC Calvin. His dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment throughout the month have been outstanding.

Congratulations to Team Darwin and a special well done to JC Calvin on a fantastic achievement. Keep up the great work! ๐Ÿ‘โš“

๐ŸŽจโœ๏ธ Creativity was flowing this week as our Junior Cadets continued their Arts Award journey!

We were delighted to welcome Tom from Pavement Poetry, also known as The Chubby Northerner, who delivered an engaging and inspiring poetry workshop. Cadets explored how poetry can be used to express ideas, tell stories, and spark imagination before creating some fantastic pieces of their own.

As part of their Arts Award, cadets also visited Bolton Museum Art Gallery, where they explored the work of artists and learned about the important role arts organisations play in preserving and promoting creativity within our communities! ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ

These activities form Part B of the Arts Award Explore, where young people explore the work of artists and arts organisations through active experiences. By meeting a working artist, taking part in a creative workshop, and visiting an art gallery, cadets gained a deeper understanding of the arts, how artists develop their work, and the impact arts organisations have in supporting creativity and culture.

From discovering new artists to developing their own creative voices, our Juniors embraced every opportunity to learn, create, and be inspired. We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm, imagination, and willingness to try something new! โš“๏ธ

๐ŸŒˆ At Sea Cadets Oldham, we are proud to be a place where everyone is welcome, respected, and valued for who they are!

Pride Month is an opportunity to celebrate diversity, promote inclusion, and recognise the importance of creating an environment where young people and volunteers can be themselves without fear of judgement. Our strength comes from the different experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives that each person brings to our unit ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ

As a community, we stand together in supporting equality, kindness, and mutual respect. Whether on the parade ground, on the water, or in the classroom, every cadet and volunteer deserves the opportunity to thrive, belong, and succeed.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the message that everyone has a place in Sea Cadets.

As we celebrate Volunteersโ€™ Week, I want to take a moment to look away from the desks and the training plans, and focus entirely on the true engine room of Sea Cadets Oldham: our incredible team of volunteers.
To our instructional staff, committee members, and background supporters - thank you!

Being a volunteer at Oldham Unit isn't just about giving up your spare time; itโ€™s about dedication, leadership, and a shared passion for launching young people into lifeโ€ฆ
..your impact is undeniable. Because of you, our cadets are gaining confidence, learning invaluable life skills, and discovering what it means to be part of a team. You are building the leaders of tomorrow.

I am immensely proud to command a unit backed by such a selfless, professional, and motivated crew. You embody the very best of our core values: Commitment, Loyalty, Discipline, Respect, Integrity, and Courage.

To the Oldham community: if you see one of our volunteers this week, please join me in thanking them for everything they do. And to our team: BZ (Bravo Zulu) to you all. You have more than earned the recognition! ๐Ÿ‘

This activity gave our cadets the opportunity to use their creativity, teamwork, and imagination to help brighten up our unit environment. We canโ€™t wait to see these colourful creations take pride of place in the garden for everyone to enjoy! ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ„โ€๐ŸŸซ

As Officer in Charge, I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to PPO. (SCC) Logan Angle (Jones) on his promotion to substansive Petty Officer โš“๏ธ

For me, this achievement is particularly special. Logan is not only a dedicated member of the Sea Cadets, but also my younger brother. I remember watching him join as a 12-year-old cadet at Stoke-on-Trent Unit, full of enthusiasm and eager to get involved in everything the organisation had to offer.

Over the years, we have grown alongside each other through the Sea Cadets. We have shared challenges, achievements, camps, courses and countless memories. While I was progressing through my own journey, I had the privilege of watching Logan develop from a young cadet into a confident leader and role model for others.

In many ways, Loganโ€™s passion for Sea Cadets helped strengthen my own involvement in the organisation. We have both grown through the opportunities Sea Cadets provides, and it has been a source of pride to watch him earn every step of his progression through hard work, determination and commitment ๐Ÿ‘

This promotion to substansive Petty Officer is thoroughly deserved and reflects the dedication he has shown over many years of service. I could not be prouder of what he has achieved, both as his Officer in Charge and, more importantly, as his brother ๐Ÿฉต

Congratulations, Petty Officer Angle. Your journey is a testament to what can be achieved through commitment, perseverance and leadership. I look forward to seeing where the next chapter takes you!
