A brilliant achievement worth celebrating! 🎉

At OPAL, we’re all about celebrating the achievements of our members and staff alike, big or small. There’s always something worth being proud of!

This time, we’re celebrating Neil, who has successfully completed Stage 2 of the Greater Manchester Practice Educator Training and Assessment Programme. 👏

The programme helps experienced social workers develop the skills and knowledge needed to support and assess social work students during their placements.

We’re incredibly proud to see another member of the OPAL team learning, developing and achieving. A massive congratulations from everyone at OPAL! 💙

BECOME AN ANSWER CANCER CHAMPION! 💚

Want to help share important cancer information in your community?

Answer Cancer Champions are people from across Greater Manchester who help raise awareness of cancer, screening, signs and symptoms, and the importance of looking after our health.

Being a Champion is flexible. You can give as much or as little time as you like, from sharing useful information with friends and family to taking part in training, events and creative campaigns. Answer Cancer also provides training and support to help Champions get involved.

Learning, creating, and talking about our health!

Last week, we took part in an Answer Cancer awareness session for people with learning disabilities and autistic adults.

Through accessible and inclusive activities, we explored how healthy cells work and what can happen when cells change and keep growing when they shouldn’t.

We also learned about NHS bowel, breast and cervical cancer screening, why screening is important, and how it can help find cancer early.

Afterwards, everyone got creative and designed their own health and wellbeing tote bags! 🎨 This gave us a relaxed space to chat, ask questions and share our experiences.

A big thank you to Answer Cancer for a really useful and engaging session, and to everyone who took part! 💚

☕️ Coffee, cake, and a very good cause! 💚

Last week, Cara and Ian from the Link Centre put on a Macmillan Coffee Morning for everyone at OPAL.

We enjoyed some delicious cakes and cookies, plenty of cups of tea and coffee, and lots of laughs along the way! 🍰

We also got creative with some Macmillan colouring to show our support. 🎨💚

Macmillan Cancer Support provides practical, emotional and financial support to people living with cancer. Coffee Mornings help raise vital funds for their work.

A massive thank you to Cara and Ian for organising such a lovely morning, and to everyone who got involved!

The OPAL Crew took a step back in time at Chadderton Town Hall! 🏛️

We visited the beautiful town hall to take part in the Oldham Histories Festival 2026 and learned all about the history of Chadderton and the local area.

We explored the building, looked at old photographs and displays, and enjoyed a lovely presentation from the Chadderton Historical Society. 📸
