Last night we were at the Sky Arts Awards 🎉

Our Executive Director was shortlisted for Arts Hero of the Year 2026, an award that celebrates the people who champion future talent. He didn’t take the trophy home, but being in that shortlist says everything about what we do here at Peshkar: backing young artists and opening doors for the next generation.

A star-studded night, a room full of brilliant performances, and basically the whole cast of Celebrity Traitors season one.

Thank you for having us, . We might be taking London, but we’re still the Kings of the North 👑

On Saturday our trustees spent the day at MediaCityUK asking exactly that. Big questions, honest conversations, a lot of coffee.

We’re not giving it all away yet. But we’ll be sharing more about where we’re heading very soon.

Meet the artist: Suriyah ✨ ( )

Suriyah is a storyteller and archivist from Bury, Lancashire, working across woodworking, textiles and film to explore questions of selfhood, heritage and belonging.

As a young Kashmiri Muslim, they’re inspired by the preservation of devotional Islam in their homeland — and the role of community, saints and shrines in teaching and archiving the universal lessons of life.

Right now they’re building on that: leading a communal archival project with the local diaspora, centred on cultural storytelling, artefacts of devotion and the lesser-known female saints of the subcontinent.

Meet the artist: Balafaama ✨ ( )

Balafaama is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist based in Manchester, born and raised in Lagos, working across painting, drawing and digital art with portraiture at the heart of her practice; exploring vulnerability, healing, identity and faith.

Alongside her own work she creates and leads workshops that bring people together through art, making creativity feel open, welcoming and meaningful. Right now she’s developing brand-new work and exploring where her evolving practice takes her next. 💫

Join artist Rio to discover how archives preserve, record and celebrate stories through a creative, hands-on project where families can explore the past, document the present and imagine a future together.
