Could you help a young person in Oldham realise what they're capable of? 💭 Here at Mahdlo Youth Zone, we're looking for 15 volunteer mentors to provide one-to-one support to young people across the borough.

You don't need previous mentoring experience, just a willingness to build a positive relationship with a young person. We provide comprehensive training, an enhanced DBS check and ongoing support throughout your mentoring journey.

If you'd like to find out more about becoming a mentor, or know someone who might be interested, we'd love to hear from you!

➡️ Find out more and apply on our website here: https://www.mahdloyz.org/whats-on/activities/projects/mentoring/ or by emailing the team at [email protected].

We had an incredible day on Saturday at our ‘Enter the Group Chat’ hackathon! 🤳 Young people led the day, working together to collaborate, problem solve and present their innovative ideas in response to the Government’s ‘Growing up Online’ consultation.

A huge thank you to our brilliant young hosts, and to our fantastic panellists for kicking off the day and sharing their insights with the group: Leanne Murphy digital creator and business founder; Andy Powell, co-founder of Inclusive Bytes; Becci Fullcircle, co-director at Fullcircle nw CIC; Eve Williamson, young trustee at Mahdlo Youth Zone; and Susanna Lawson, tech business founder.

We’re really proud that the event was featured on ITV News Granada Reports, which highlighted the voices and opinions of young people at the event. You can read the article here: https://www.itv.com/news/granada/2026-05-17/oldham-youngsters-have-their-say-in-national-online-safety-debate

A huge thank you to everyone who joined our hackathon and helped it such a success! 💛

Ahead of tomorrow’s 'Enter the Group Chat' hackathon here at Mahdlo, we’re really pleased to see it featured in the Oldham Chronicle (Official). 📰

‘Enter the Group Chat’ will bring together young people and their families to share their views and ideas on growing up online, social media and phone use. It directly contributes to the Government’s ongoing ‘Growing Up Online’ consultation and the wider national conversation.

We’ll be welcoming young people (members and non-members) from 10am tomorrow, with lunch provided, for a full day of discussion and activities where their voices can be heard. If you’d like to get involved, just come along from 10am - we’d love to see you there! 📢💛

🌟 Supporting young people in Oldham

We’re proud to be working in partnership with@mahdloyouthzone to help remove financial barriers for young people in our communities.

💷 We’ve committed £4,000 to a six‑month pilot that gives 8–19-year-olds living in FCHO homes free access to Mahdlo’s youth zone on Egerton Street and includes:

✅ Free membership
✅ Clubs and activities
✅ Sport, music, dance and drama
✅ A healthy meal included

🙌With cost-of-living pressures affecting many families, this project is about making sure young people can still access positive, supportive opportunities that build confidence, skills and aspirations.

The pilot, which runs until October, will be reviewed later this year to understand its impact and future potential.

🤝 Together with Mahdlo, we’re investing in brighter futures and stronger communities across Oldham.

ENTER THE GROUP CHAT 💬📱 Young people, parents and carers, we want your voice!

Join us at Mahdlo on Saturday 16th May for an interactive hackathon as part of the Enter the Group Chat campaign by Livity UK, exploring social media, screen time, growing up online and how technology impacts young people and families today.

This is a chance to share experiences, discuss challenges, and help shape ideas for healthier relationships with technology. What’s shared on the day will also contribute to a government consultation, meaning your views could help influence national conversations around young people and life online.

🎉 Free to attend
🍴 Free lunch provided
🎁 Free goody bag for attendees
💛 Free one-year Mahdlo membership
🌟 Plus, everyone attending will be entered into a prize draw to win a £50 voucher!

Join us on Saturday 16th May, 10am - 2:30pm at Mahdlo Youth Zone. Whether you’re a young person, parent, carer or family member, come along, meet others, share your experiences and be part of an important conversation about the digital world.

We'd love to see you there! 💛

At 70 years old, Frank Rothwell decided to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean alone, because why make things easy? In a small rowing boat and with no one to answer to, he sets out to break a world record, and quietly defies everything society expects of age, sense, and self-preservation along the way.

What unfolds is a brutal, often beautiful battle between one very determined man and a vast, indifferent sea.
