Support & Action for Womens' Network - SAWN SAWN-Support and Action for Women Network was established in 2007 to promote the welfare of Black/African women in Oldham and Great Manchester.

SAWN supports Black / African women to realise their full potential through providing information, a safe space, engaging them in activities, opportunities, and events to take control, have a voice and be key players in matters that concern them. We Train, educate, and provide opportunities to raise awareness. And provide a service that meets the specialist needs of Black Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) women by giving them a voice.

18/08/26, we had a lovely session with Stuart Braidewood from MAC Clinical Research

He introduced us to Clinical trials, how data is being collated, the several processes involved and how it benefits research as a whole.

We were introduced to Clinical trials for Alzheimer's, PTSD,vulvodynia, mental health conditions, and several others.

Our Community was encouraged to participate in such trials to further assist in research that will lead to potential new and better treatments.

The session ended with some of us signing up for the trials and chosing to spread the awareness as well.

We came together to explore important issues, share experiences and create space for honest conversations within our community.

Because freedom isn’t just the right to speak it’s the right to be heard.

Through listening, deciding and acting together, we can strengthen our communities and create positive change.

A CLEAN GUT = A HEALTHY BODY & MIND

Yesterday, we explored women’s health and gut health with Harriet Makubuya, also known as Nakawunde, from Revive Women’s Health C.I.C.

We discussed the importance of maintaining a healthy gut through balanced nutrition, proper hydration, and nourishing our bodies with fruits, vegetables, seeds, and other wholesome foods.

It was an educative, eye-opening, and highly informative session, leaving us with practical knowledge and a deeper understanding of how our diet directly impacts our overall wellbeing.

A healthy gut truly supports a healthier body and mind!

A New Chapter Begins for SAWN!

We are delighted to share some very exciting news — SAWN has officially received the keys to our new building!

This is more than just a new building. It represents growth, hope, opportunity and a new chapter for our organisation and the communities we serve.

For years, SAWN has been a safe space, a place of connection, support and empowerment for women, families and communities. Receiving the keys to our new home marks another important step in our journey and brings us closer to creating an even bigger and better space where people can connect, learn, create, feel supported and thrive.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has walked alongside us and helped make this moment possible — our community, partners, funders, volunteers, supporters and everyone who continues to believe in the work we do.

The keys are in our hands, and the possibilities are endless!

This is just the beginning. We can't wait to bring the space to life and share this exciting new chapter with you all.

'CKP bring and share picnic' Oh what a glorious day we had at our allotment yesterday . It was a holiday get together with friends and family, we had lots of food to share, games, stories about food and general lifestyle. And guess what 🥁🥁🥁🪇🪇🪇! The weather was on our side. We spent another wonderful day at the allotment, doing a little more weeding, watering, pruning, clearing the walkway, and tidying up the surroundings especially in preparation for the CKP session.

It’s amazing what can be achieved when we come together with willing hands and open hearts.

Yesterday’s SARATI session was a beautiful space for learning, sharing, and connecting.

We explored Mindfulness and Self-Care with Folashade Alonge from De Butterfly CIC and Mama Health and Poverty Partnership . learning simple ways to care for ourselves and improve our wellbeing.

It was a meaningful session filled with honest conversations, reflections, and helpful tips that reminded us of the importance of looking after our bodies, minds, and overall wellbeing.

Yesterday we had a very great rewarding session where we harvested a lot of produce from our allotment. We harvested potatoes, peas, strawberries, spring onions, beetroot, tomatoes and onions.
The beauty of the diverse crops makes Obutonde a place to be always.

Today was a special day as we celebrated our wonderful CEO, Rose Ssali. We wish you many more years of good health, happiness, and abundant blessings. Thank you for your leadership and the difference you continue to make in so many lives.

We also had a meaningful conversation about cancer awareness and why it's so important to normalise talking about cancer in our communities. One of our sisters bravely shared her personal story, reminding us that early checks can save lives. Her courage encouraged us all to take our health seriously and not be afraid to get checked.

Let's keep having these conversations, supporting one another, and raising awareness together.
