Support & Action for Womens' Network - SAWN

Support & Action for Womens' Network - SAWN SAWN-Support and Action for Women Network was established in 2007 to promote the welfare of Black/African women in Oldham and Great Manchester.

SAWN supports Black / African women to realise their full potential through providing information, a safe space, engaging them in activities, opportunities, and events to take control, have a voice and be key players in matters that concern them. We Train, educate, and provide opportunities to raise awareness. And provide a service that meets the specialist needs of Black Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) women by giving them a voice.

What a fantastic day at our SAWN Cookout!

We spent the day cooking together, sharing stories, enjoying great food, and of course dancing and laughing along the way. It was wonderful to see everyone working together and making the most of the fresh ingredients.

Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the day so special. Days like these remind us how important community, friendship and togetherness are.

We were joined by Mariam and Alaina from

We attended volunteer event yesterday to celebrate our wonderful volunteers and the essential work they do for SAWN and others do across their organisations well done Jovia and Benilda for picking up their recognition award and well done for putting on such a fabulous event bringing brilliant charities/voluntary organisations and the business community together 👏

Menopause Matters

Today we had Bethany from join us for a really informative and open discussion about menopause, women’s health and healthy ageing.

We talked about the physical, emotional and mental changes that can come with menopause, as well as ways to manage symptoms through healthy eating, exercise, self-care and available support. It was encouraging to hear women sharing their experiences and learning from one another.

One thing that stood out was that menopause is a natural stage of life, and no one should feel they have to go through it alone.

A big thank you to Bethony for sharing her knowledge and to everyone who took part in the conversation. By talking openly and supporting each other, we can help break the stigma and create a stronger, more understanding community.

Knowledge is power. Sharing helps others. Support makes all the difference.

Another wonderful bead-making session with Olajumoke from De Butterfly CIC

The day was filled with creativity, learning, and laughter. It was lovely to see everyone’s creativity come to life as they designed their own bracelets and helped each other.

A big thank you to Olajumoke for sharing her skills, patience, and encouragement with us throughout the session.

Activities like these show the power of coming together, learning from one another, and building confidence in a supportive environment.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the session such a success. We can't wait to see you at the next one!

On the 19/05/26 we had such a beautiful and heartfelt conversation with Anna Maria and Lenny about their project, The Funnest Room in the House — a project exploring the kitchen as a space of memory, culture, care, storytelling, and joy. ❤️

Some stories were shared today — memories of cooking with mothers and grandmothers, outdoor kitchens back home, cookouts, special pots carried across countries, and the love that food and gathering can hold.

Thank you, Anna Maria and Lenny, for these conversations and reminding us that the kitchen is often the heart of the home and community.

Seeing SAWN team on this billboard honestly feels so special ❤️

What started as a safe space for women to connect, support one another, and grow has become something truly powerful in our community. Watching the impact grow and seeing the work recognised like this is such a proud moment.

So grateful to everyone who continues to pour love, strength, and dedication into SAWN. This is more than a billboard — it’s a reflection of lives being touched and communities being transformed 💕
