Our second session on Adverse Childhood Experiences was emotional, honest and powerful, led by Julie Onwuameze from Prospect Living

The women reflected on their childhood experiences and how they can affect how we relate to others, parent our children, and respond to life.

One thing that stood out was the reminder that we never really know what someone else is carrying. So let’s listen more, judge less and show more kindness.

Sometimes, healing begins when we finally feel safe enough to talk.

We are not alone.

Sometimes what happened to us as children stays with us into adulthood.

Today’s SARATI session was deeply emotional as women opened up about childhood experiences, family relationships, loss, abuse, separation and the things they have carried quietly for years.

Some shared how these experiences affected their relationships, parenting, confidence and the way they respond to conflict.

There were tears, difficult memories, but also courage, faith, forgiveness and hope.

One thing that stood out was the reminder to ask “What happened to you?” rather than “What is wrong with you?”

We ended by slowing down, breathing and reminding ourselves: “I am not in my past. I am here now.”

Thank you to every woman who shared her story and made this a safe space for others to speak, listen and begin their healing journey.

Our first Global Majority Leadership Oldham meeting

We brought community leaders together to share, connect and talk honestly about the reality of leadership.

We talked about funding, sustainability, delegation, mentoring, wellbeing and the importance of not doing everything alone.

We also shared what we can bring, what support we need, and who else we need to bring into the conversation.

A really honest and encouraging start and a reminder that we are stronger when we support and learn from each other.

The community knowledge producers session was educational, all about challenging the Western Philosophy of colonisation, we explored how we can decolonise the Western society using our situated knowledge, our intersectionality, our culture and traditions. We are doing this focusing on our strengths and capabilities, our values, methodologies and principles.
