Did you know that you can help us receive free regular donations by doing your online food shops via easyfundraising?

I joined the Home-Start Lorn Board of Trustees in February 2021 and very much enjoy being part of the organisation and working with such a dedicated staff and Board.

Having worked much of my life in education, previously as a Head Teacher, I understand the importance, and the huge benefits, of being part of a team, all striving to do the best for the children and their parents/ carers in and around Oban and Mull.

It is a real privilege to see the developments that have taken place over the last five years and to know that Home-Start Lorn is supporting a huge number of families in many different ways.

We are all very excited about the new family centre and know that it will bring many benefits to the organisation and the community.

Home-Start Lorn has made the most amazing difference to my life. I had always worked in the NHS and really enjoyed the feeling that I was, hopefully, making a little positive difference to some people’s lives. After I retired, and with no grandchildren to be involved with, I lost that feeling of being useful.

I joined Home-Start Lorn in 2021 and have supported a number of families over the last 4 years. The ‘needs’ of the families and what I have done with or for them has varied very significantly but in all cases, I have been able to enjoy myself hugely with my surrogate grandchildren, while being able to feel that I am, in small ways, making a positive difference to their lives. Getting back that feeling that my life has some purpose has been invaluable.

More recently, I have become a Trustee of Home-Start Lorn, which means I am now more involved in the running of the organisation, and that has also boosted my sense of being useful. The entire Home-Start team, staff volunteers and trustees, are so passionate about the organisation and about making a difference to local families with children that I feel it an honour to be part of such an inspiring organisation. I hope to continue to be a part of HomeStart Lorn for many years to some.

“Oban Resident Wins National Trustee Award for Outstanding Dedication”

Our chairperson Mark attended the Volunteer of the year awards in London, back in April and was deservedly given the volunteer of the year award (trustee section).

Mark’s dedication to Home-Start Lorn earned him Home-Start UK’s Trustee Award for 2025. Mark far exceeded the traditional role of a trustee, taking on multiple key positions over the past few years that ensured the charity’s survival and growth.

Each year Home-Start UK honours the people who have volunteered their time with the Home-Start cause. You too could perhaps be attending this type of event with the first step being to get in touch 😃

As part of the Home-Start Lorn board of trustees, you're lucky enough to visit other local charities and facilities.

Below we were lucky enough to hold our Board meeting at the SAMS centre out at nearby Dunbeg. A wonderful day was had by all 😀
