This morning, the UK Prime Minister announced plans to ban social media access for under 16s, a move that is already generating significant discussion across the country.

Among those represented by their parents during this morningโ€™s announcement were young people who have become part of this important campaign, sadly because they died: Issac (13), Jools (14), Kady (15), Murray (16), Mia (14), Noah (11) and Brianna.

Every one of these young people has a story. Every family has experienced, witnessed, and been affected by the realities of growing up in a digital world.

While social media can offer connection, friendship and support, many young people and families have also seen the darker side ~ cyberbullying, harmful content, exploitation, and the devastating impact these can have on young lives.

Here our co-founder Susan, who has witnessed first-hand the heartbreaking consequences that can arise when children are exposed to the harmful side of social media, shares her thoughts. We would love to hear your thoughts on todayโ€™s announcement.

Do you support a ban for under 16s? Do you think it will make a difference? Do you think it will save young peopleโ€™s lives?

We invite respectful discussion and encourage everyone to listen to the experiences of the young people and families at the heart of this conversation.

The families who have come together to garner this change are absolutely incredible. But it absolutely breaks our hearts that their children are no longer here. Watch BBC Breakfast now to hear the announcement from Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Amazing news! Congratulations to the wonderful team at Megan's Space. Such well deserved recognition.

๐Ÿ† WE WON! ๐Ÿ†

Last night was an unforgettable moment for everyone connected with Megan's Space as we were honoured to receive the SCVO Scottish Charity Awards 2026 Charity of the Year (Medium Organisation).

What began six years ago with a family's determination to create something positive from unimaginable loss has grown into something far bigger than a charity.

As Rob Copeland said:
"Megan's Space is no longer a charity. It is a movement."

Over the last six years, Rob and Jenny Copeland, Megan's brothers Gary and Aaron, alongside our dedicated trustees, staff, volunteers, supporters, friends, families and professional partners, have worked tirelessly to build a respected, professional and effective organisation dedicated to supporting young people across Ayrshire and beyond.

Together, we have:

๐Ÿ’œ Supported more than 2,000 young people through one-to-one services.

๐Ÿ’œ Delivered awareness, self-care, prevention and mental health training across primary and secondary schools and Ayrshire College.

๐Ÿ’œ Launched our Youth Group which runs every Wednesday.

๐Ÿ’œ Helped create conversations, understanding and hope within communities.

This award belongs to every person who has supported Megan's Space along the way.

Whether you have volunteered your time, donated, attended an event, shared our message, trusted us with your story or helped a young person access support this achievement is yours too.

Most importantly, we want to thank the young people and families who have placed their trust in us over the past six years. Your courage, resilience and willingness to reach out for support are the reason Megan's Space exists.
Every conversation started, every life touched and every step taken towards hope matters.

We would also like to congratulate all of the finalists at the Scottish Charity Awards. We were humbled to be recognised alongside such incredible organisations, each making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. We celebrate your achievements and the positive impact you continue to make in communities across Scotland.

Jenny Copeland said:

"Thank you to each and every person who has played a part in the Megan's Space success story. But most importantly, please remember that nobody needs to suffer in silence."

If you are struggling, or if you know someone who may need support, please reach out. Together, there is hope, and together we can find a way forward.

This recognition is not the end of our journey it is motivation to keep going, to reach more young people, support more families and continue breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health.

๐Ÿ’œ This award is for Megan.

๐Ÿ’œ This award is for every young person and family we have supported.

๐Ÿ’œ This award is for our volunteers, staff, trustees and supporters.

๐Ÿ’œ This award is for our community.

Thank you for believing in our vision, supporting our mission and helping us create hope where it is needed most. We are humbled, proud and more determined than ever to continue this journey together.

Today, over 150 bereaved family members, friends and supporters came together at Lochardil House Hotel in Inverness to remember precious babies, children and young people who are loved beyond measure and missed every day. ๐Ÿ’›

Despite the weather, the wonderful team at Lochardil House ensured the day could go ahead, opening the MacDonald Room for our service before the rain eased and families made their way outside to release 95 beautiful Painted Lady butterflies in memory of their children.

We are so grateful to everyone who helped make the day possible ~ from our volunteers, supporters and performers, to Lorna and Fiona from D. Gunn Funeral Directors, our Millburn Academy YPI team, Jayne, Katie, Ann, Andrew, Susan, Aileen, Saffron, Sara, Catriona and Angeline from Butterflies for Occasions.

Most of all, thank you to every family who joined us, shared their childโ€™s name, displayed their photograph, and allowed us the privilege of remembering alongside them.

Together we remembered. Together we honoured. Together we carried their love into the Highland sky. ๐Ÿฆ‹

Today, despite the rain clouds gathering overhead, something so beautiful happened in Inverness.

Over 150 bereaved family members, friends and supporters came together at our Memorial Event with Butterfly Release at Lochardil House Hotel to remember precious babies, children and young people who are loved beyond measure and missed every day.

When the weather threatened to disrupt our plans, the incredible team at Lochardil House pulled out all the stops, opening up the MacDonald Room so that families could gather together in comfort. Their kindness and flexibility ensured that the heart of the day remained exactly as it should be ~ focused on remembrance, love and connection.

As if on cue, the skies granted us a precious break in the weather. Families collected their butterflies and made their way outside, where 95 beautiful Painted Lady butterflies, lovingly raised by Angeline and the wonderful team at Butterflies for Occasions, took flight in memory of our children. Watching them rise into the air was both heart-wrenching and beautiful ~ a reminder that love never dies and memories continue to soar long after a life has ended.

Days like these are only possible because of the kindness of so many people.

Thank you to Lorna and Fiona from D. Gunn Funeral Directors for giving their time to support families throughout the day. Thank you to Ann and our incredible Millburn Academy YPI team of Georgie, Maya and Emily, who helped create a welcoming and creative space for families at the craft table. Thank you to Jayne, whose face painting and sparkling jewels brought smiles and moments of lightness. Thank you to Katie, who almost single-handedly managed registrations while our co-founder Susan seemed to be everywhere at once! And thank you to our co-founder Andrew, who hosted the Whispers of Love table where so many treasured photographs, messages and memories were shared. Our hosts Sara & Catriona did all they could to welcome new and old faces alike.

A sincere thank you also to Aileen for reading our opening poem with such tenderness, and to Saffron Hanvidge, whose beautiful songs touched hearts and moved many of us to tears.

Most of all, thank you to every family who joined us. Thank you for sharing your children with us. Thank you for speaking their names, displaying their photographs, telling their stories and allowing us the privilege of remembering alongside you.

This was a reminder that grief can feel incredibly lonely, but none of us walks this path alone. Together we remembered. Together we cried. Together we smiled. Together we honoured our children.

And for a few precious moments, carried on the wings of 95 butterflies, their love filled the Highland sky. ๐Ÿฆ‹

On Wednesday 3rd June, we had the honour of attending not one, but two Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) finals.

Our co-founder Andrew travelled to St Modanโ€™s High School in Stirling to support Abigail and Hannah, while our Community Worker Beckie attended Liberton High School to support Nieve, Haneefa, Amber and Sophie.

For those unfamiliar with YPI, it is a programme that empowers young people to learn about social issues in their communities, connect with local charities, and advocate for causes they are passionate about. Students research a charity, engage directly with its work, and present to their peers and judges, with the winning team securing a grant of ยฃ3,000 for their chosen organisation.

Both teams were an absolute credit to their families, their schools and themselves.

Throughout the entire process, they engaged wholeheartedly with Anam Cara Fasgadh, asking thoughtful and insightful questions, demonstrating a mature understanding of the impact that the death of a baby, child or young person has on a family, and showing a genuine determination to help us reach and support more bereaved families within their communities.

We are absolutely delighted to announce that Abigail and Hannah from St Modanโ€™s High School were awarded the ยฃ3,000 YPI grant for Anam Cara Fasgadh!

Even more excitingly, they have already been thinking about how these funds can make a lasting difference. Together with the students and the local community, we will be working to host a Memorial Event with Butterfly Release in their area, creating a space where bereaved families can come together to remember, honour and celebrate their children.

While Nieve, Haneefa, Amber and Sophie were not successful in securing the grant at their final, we are incredibly grateful for the compassion, commitment and dedication they have shown. Their support has meant so much to us, and we very much hope to continue working alongside them in the future.

To all six young people: thank you. Thank you for choosing to shine a light on child bereavement. Thank you for speaking up for families whose voices can sometimes feel unheard. Thank you for your kindness, your empathy and your determination to make a difference.

You have made us immensely proud, and you have given hope to families facing the darkest of times.

โœจ Earth Angels Among Us โœจ

Yesterday, our Youth Champion Noah and Co-Founder Susan had the pleasure of meeting with John, who has been supporting Anam Cara Fasgadh since last year.

Like all of our donors, fundraisers and supporters, John is truly an Earth Angel. ๐Ÿ’œ

Every act of kindness, every donation, every fundraiser and every word of encouragement helps us continue bringing love, care, compassion and support to families facing the unimaginable loss of a baby, child or young person.

Behind every service we provide, every family retreat, every memorial event and every moment of support, there are people like John making it possible.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Your generosity helps grieving families know that they are not alone.

Please take a moment to listen to Susan as she shares more about the difference our supporters make.

If any of our followers are within commuting distance, we would encourage you to join.
