Drumroll please! Our Osprey Leaders are superstars, and together with the OLF team, we created this video to share with their peers in The Gambia who are involved in nature sessions at the Gunjur Project. Part of this experience involved building an Osprey nest on a platform, which we plan to put up locally and follow its progress.
Great work, Osprey Leaders - well done!

A big thank you to Rutland Water and Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust for hosting us at Rutland Water Nature Reserve.

BECOMING A CONSERVATION LEADER: 13TH APRIL - 21ST MAY
Our online introduction to leadership for early-career conservationists, Becoming A Conservation Leader, is centred on our organisation's values: authentic, effective, brave and community, which we think underpin the traits of the most successful leaders. Our inside-out approach will help you examine how to go about creating change not through the position you hold but from who you truly are. We’ll get you thinking about your own values and how they guide your decision making and why it’s important not to try and be someone you’re not. You will be encouraged to think about how you manage your attitudes, behaviours, time and relationships. You’ll consider the importance of developing resilience and how to overcome challenges and stand up for what you believe in with courage. And finally, we hope you’ll set aside a competitive mindset and realise the value of community: the need to cooperate with, support and combine strengths with others so that together you can achieve more. In just six weeks, we hope to empower you to face the future with resilience and the belief that you can, and will, make a difference.

OSPREY CRUISES - RUTLAND WATER
Friday 10th & Saturday 11th July 2026

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to spend an evening searching for fishing ospreys aboard the Rutland Belle with Dr. Tim Mackrill, a leading expert on ospreys and their reintroduction in the UK. Tim will discuss the science and stories behind the success of this iconic species, sharing insights about their migration across the planet and the unifying power of ospreys in achieving conservation goals. As a true champion of the species, there is no better guide to help you observe ospreys in their breeding habitat or to recount the remarkable story of their return to England after a 200-year absence.

Setting sail from Whitwell Harbour aboard the Rutland Belle, you’ll spend an hour and a half enjoying the picturesque surroundings of Rutland Water and the diverse wildlife that inhabits it. While we can’t guarantee that you’ll see a fishing osprey, we are confident that your chances are high, as we will navigate to areas of the reservoir where ospreys are frequently seen flying by or catching fish.

Spaces are limited so book now to avoid disappointment!

FREE ONLINE TALK: Osprey spring migration – Wednesday 25th March 7:30pm

Spring is one of the most exciting times in the Osprey calendar as breeding birds return to the UK. In this free online talk OLF founder and Osprey expert Dr Tim Mackrill, who has a PhD on Osprey migration, will describe the amazing journeys the birds make as they traverse deserts, mountain ranges and seas in order to make a timely return to their nests from their wintering grounds. He’ll explain how satellite tracking has enhanced our understanding of these journeys and shed new light on some remarkable feats of endurance.

The talk is free but we ask that you consider making a donation to the Osprey Leadership Foundation in return.

At the end of Becoming A Conservation Leader, we ask our participants how their views of leadership have changed since completing the course. Here are some lovely responses from our Winter cohorts.

Here at OLF, we believe that anyone can be a leader; some of us just need a little help recognising our own potential. ☺️

Earlier this month we welcomed back our brilliant team of Osprey Leaders for their first session of the year. It was a brilliant morning filming a video about Osprey Leaders to share with our friends at the As part of this, we built an Osprey nest (pictured) on a platform which will be put up locally to Rutland and the children explained how we help and protect breeding Ospreys here in the UK. We’re all keeping our fingers crossed their nest attracts a pair of Ospreys soon!

📣 CALL TO ACTION!

We’re looking for young conservationists (18-35) who might like to deliver an event in the Young Conservationists’ Hub at this year’s (10-12th July). “The Hub” is a platform for the amazing talent and expertise of young leaders working in nature conservation. It will be a vibrant space which showcases the energy and positive impact young people bring to the movement and we hope it will inspire other young people to follow in their footsteps. Wonderful to see another group of 25 young people learning about nature in The Gambia thanks to the brilliant team of peer educators from Gunjur Project. After a classroom session on Saturday, the group spent Sunday morning searching for Ospreys and other birds. They saw a total of 16 Ospreys, which will have travelled to winter in The Gambia from different European countries. It is wonderful how migratory birds link us in this way.

Huge thanks to the The Gunjur Project Birding & Nature Club for all their brilliant work, and also to Bywyd Gwyllt Glaslyn Wildlife - Glaslyn Ospreys.for their valuable support of this important and impactful project.
