We're received several reports this evening (16 October) of an individual calling residents and claiming to be a police officer in an attempt to get people's sensitive information.

The calls are reportedly coming from 01926 450000. It's believed those behind this are 'spoofing' a Warwickshire landline number.

The caller is claiming to be a PC Andy Lawson. There is no such officer working for us.

They are then reportedly citing false incident numbers, claiming they're involved in an investigation and asking for usernames and passwords to various online services.

We're investigating this. In the meantime, please remember:

- We will never ask you to give sensitive information - like logins and passwords - over the phone.
- If you are in any doubt at all as to the legitimacy of the caller - hang up immediately and call us directly on 101. Any genuine police officer will have no issue at all with you doing that.

Know anyone who is vulnerable? Please have a chat with them this evening to give them a heads up.

If you receive any calls like this, please hang up and call us on 101.

‘Sexting’, ‘n**es’, ‘dick pics’. There’s lots of different terms children use when talking about sharing explicit images of themselves with other young people. The one constant is the damage they can cause to the individual concerned and the lack of control you have once you’ve pressed that share button. Once it's out there, it's out there.

We know children and young people are doing this and it’s often the result of young people’s natural curiosity about s*x and their exploration of relationships.

The law is designed to protect children and young people rather than criminalise them and Warwickshire Police will not prosecute under 18’s for this, instead we will help educate around the risks, help remove the image from circulation and signpost to support.

We will only consider prosecution where it’s in the public interest such as where a child has been bullied, blackmailed or forced in to sending explicit images of themselves.

When it comes to children sharing such images of themselves, we have three main pieces of advice, as Detective Sergeant Dave Moorman from our Online Child Exploitation Team explains.

“Firstly, under no circumstances, share explicit images of yourself. Once it’s out there, it’s out there and it can be shared with others.

“Secondly, if you do send such an image to someone tell a trusted adult such as a teacher, a parent, or contact the police as soon as possible. I can’t emphasise this enough, you will not get into trouble, and we can put measures in place to help stop the spread of the image.

“Finally, if you receive such an image or are aware of such images being shared, do the right thing; tell a teacher or call the police on 101. Resharing the image is a criminal offence, and a criminal record could affect your future.”

Operation Guarding is the force’s initiative to tackle the issue of children sending explicit images of themselves and educate children on the dangers of sharing these images.

“If you have a child, please speak to them about this and urge them never to share explicit images of themselves. You might think your child would never do such a thing and while some children may send images of themselves consensually, others may be forced, tricked or coerced. The important thing is to act quickly so we can take action to prevent the images being spread more widely.”

04-02-2025 - At 2:19am a dark colour hatchback car dropped a person on the corner of Cherry Field and Charnwood Drive and walked down Cherry Field.
The person then re-appeared at 2:25am and walked up Charnwood Drive trying car doors. Very aware of where the security lights are, and took time to avoid them. If someone one has better footage of the dark hatchback car traveling down Trenthham just before 2:19 that would be very useful.

OP CLOSE PASS and OP SNAP

Operation targets motorists who ignore Highway Code rules by passing cyclists too close

Whilst most drivers passed cyclists safely, some need to give cyclists more space when they overtake them is the conclusion of the latest Operation Close Pass that took place on Hillmorton Road in Rugby today, Monday 18 September.

Operation Close Pass is designed to actively target motorists who ignore Highway Code rules on overtaking cyclists.

During the operation vehicles passed a plain-clothes police officer on a bicycle (equipped with video camera) on Hillmorton Road who was looking out for motorists who do not leave the required space when passing cyclists. Whilst the vast majority passed the cyclist safely, leaving at least 1.5 metres, officers intercepted 8 motorists who were spotted not leaving the appropriate space. These motorists were pulled aside for a demonstration of safe passing distances on an illustrated ground-mat and shown a video of their driving. Whilst officers much prefer to educate drivers, repeat offenders, those who drive dangerously close, and those who decline the ‘chat on the mat’, may be charged.

Officers and PCSOs also had the opportunity to work alongside driving instructors to help educate 8 learner drivers about safely passing cyclists and spoke to approximately 60 cyclists including school children who were safely stopped and given high vis items to help improve their visibility on the roads.

The operation, coincides with the national NPCC Vulnerable Road Users campaign that aims to improve road safety for cyclists, pedestrians, horse riders and motorcyclists.

The partnership is also encouraging cyclists to use Operation Snap to report and submit digital footage showing potential moving traffic offences such as dangerous or careless driving including passing them too closely. The evidence you submit will be reviewed by one of our road traffic police officers. For more information www.warwickshire.police.uk/operation-snap/
