What does it mean to belong to a place you don’t own?

For generations, community organisations have created spaces where people meet, organise, celebrate, worship, learn and support one another.

But what happens when the communities using those spaces don’t actually own them?

In Episode 1 of Nottm Hubs: Power to Prosper, Sajid Mohammed sits down with Rohan Patel to explore community ownership in Nottingham, from organisations served 28-day eviction notices to the long-term impact of austerity on our city.

As Saj puts it:

“We are permanently tenants in our neighbourhood.”

Community Asset Transfer isn’t just about taking ownership of buildings. It’s about communities having the power, security and freedom to shape their own future.

Together with Anchor, we welcomed Faisal Amjad for a packed fireside chat celebrating the launch of his new book, Khalyfa: Remembering Human Purpose in the Age of AI.

After networking over a delicious cooked breakfast, we explored some of the defining questions of our time: How do we remember our purpose in an age increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence?

The Hub was filled with lively discussion, energy and engagement and every copy of the book sold out!

Some lives leave a lasting mark on a community. Maxine Cockett’s is one of them. 💚

For decades, Maxine has devoted herself to Nottingham, standing alongside its communities and giving her voice, time and heart to the pursuit of justice.

At the Himmah Social Justice Awards, we had the privilege of presenting Maxine, from Breaking Barriers Building Bridges, with our Lifetime Achievement Award. It was our moment to say thank you, properly, publicly and with the gratitude she so deeply deserves. 🏆
