NFS and AFS Vehicles Group

NFS and AFS Vehicles Group We are based in the East Midlands, and re-enact the work of the WW2 and early post-war fire services

Our group take vehicles and equipment to shows, mainly in the East Midlands. Although we go to some static shows, our main focus is to demonstrate the vehicles and equipment in use. At some events we do training, and show the equipment in use, often pumping water. A few times each year, at our main events, we will re-enact a wartime air raid in association with a number of other re-enacting groups

and individuals (such as ARP, WVS, Police, Press, Ambulance, Army/Home Guard and civilians). This will involve sirens, pyrotechnics, smoke, and sound effects, followed by fire engines, pumps, ladders and other rescue equipment, all showing how the fires are put our and people rescued during an air raid. We support remembrance events and commemorate special anniversaries, and are interested in fire service history. The NFS and AFS Vehicles Group is jointly run by David and Fran Moore, and John and Janice Sutcliffe.

The Air Raid at Quorn Station went with a bang! A lone German raider dropped bombs on the train where the Hinckley Home Guard were unloading a valuable consignment of dynamite and weapons, and noticed some shady characters trying to steal petrol from the tank wagon. The Red Tops put an end to that!

One of the HG got hit by machine gun fire, and luckily the bombs didn't do much damage.

Thank you to Dave Edwards for the photos.

We are at Melton Mowbray show today and tomorrow. Lovely weather, and a river full of water for us to pump.

As we are all getting older, we are now past 'peak NFS'. The Fordson Escape Carrier and a load of small equipment has now gone to start a new life with the Norfolk Fire Museum.

To be honest, the Fordson hasn't seen the light of day since Covid, so it deserves some love.

We recently lent some equipment to a film company for a piece about the blitz in Pembroke Docks.

We have just heard that the second episode will be transmitting on Tuesday 22nd July at 8pm and weekly thereafter for 7 weeks. It has a new title which is Coastal Adventures with Helen, Jules and JB, so please look out for that on the electronic programme guide or EPG.
