Participant Call: Colour Me, Colour Us

We’re looking for participants to take part in Colour Me, Colour Us, a participatory photography project by Dafe Oboro, our current artist in residence, exploring identity, movement, belonging and the people we meet between places.

Participants will be photographed in two ways: Passport-style portraits exploring ideas of identity and migration. Creative portraits against a life-size Seoul backdrop, with a bicycle, scooter, motorcycle, or a vehicle of your choice.

Participants are encouraged to wear their Sunday best or party best and bring their personality into the image.

📅 13 & 14 October
📍 New Art Exchange (outdoor location)
👥 6 participants per day

All participants will receive a set of their passport photographs, which will later become part of the artwork through hand-colouring.

Nottingham MELA 2026 is back!

Join us this weekend to celebrate South Asian arts & culture through music, dance, food, and family-friendly activities.

✨ FRIDAY 11 SEPTEMBER
An Evening with SOLOM | 7pm–late
An evening of Indian culture, bringing together yoga, food, Kirtan & Chanting, live music and Bollywood & South Asian dancing.

✨ SATURDAY 12 SEPTEMBER
A full day at NAE with creative workshops, dance, drumming, henna and live music, including performances from Rahul Christian and Swar-Tarang Band from India. Plus, MELA specials at CORNER: plant-based Masala Chai and Mango Lassi.

✨ SUNDAY 13 SEPTEMBER
Mela in the Park | Wollaton Hall | 12–5pm
The grand finale of MELA 2026, with Bollywood artists and performers, live music, stalls, workshops and more.

Closing 12 September, the exhibition explores women’s strength, ancestral memory, and the power of creation and transformation through mythology and intergenerational stories.

In this reel, we’re sharing a moment from Saroj’s artist talk, where she reflects on the ideas and stories behind her work.

3-31 August: Concrete Heritage, Rolling Archive - celebrate 50 years of Nottingham's skateboarding culture with exhibitions, workshops and activities.

6 August: Community Kitchen - enjoy a delicious Lebanese-inspired meal from 5pm, followed by a free film screening of the Lebanese drama Memory Box.

7 August: Mediterranean Summer Party - an evening of live music, dancing, Mediterranean food and sangria, featuring artists celebrating the sounds of Greece, Portugal, Italy and Spain.

6 - 29 August: Summer Holiday Film Screenings - enjoy a programme of free, family-friendly films throughout the school holidays at New Art Exchange.

8 & 22 August: Saturday Arts Club - free drop-in creative workshops for children and families.

21 August: Block Party Vol. 2 - It's back! B2B DJs, BBQ, an Open Deck competition, interactive art and more.

29 August: MORABEZA Afroluso Party – celebrate Lusophone African culture with DJs, dancing and music from across Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe.
