Too many migrant care workers are facing insecure hours and having to rely on multiple employers, as well as pressure linked to visa sponsorship and fear of speaking up. Many are also dealing with high visa and recruitment costs, alongside uncertainty about their future and their ability to settle in the UK. At the same time, decisions are being discussed that could make it harder and take longer to secure Indefinite Leave to Remain. Without clear evidence from workers, these decisions will be made without your voice.

This is not just a survey, this is evidence that GMB will use to challenge the UK Governments, demand fair pay, secure hours, and safe staffing, and push for stronger protections against exploitation. It will also support our campaign for a system that allows workers to move between employers. Critically, it will help defend the right to settlement by making the case that Indefinite Leave to Remain must remain at five years or less.

We need to clearly show how many workers are dependent on sponsorship, how many are struggling with hours, pay, and conditions, and how visa rules are affecting your ability to stay and work in the UK. It is also essential to demonstrate that extending the time to settlement would push workers out of the sector or the country. The stronger the evidence, the stronger our ability to win change.

Where is Sandwell Council Leader Ray Nock?

He has refused to meet local school workers TWICE - apparently so he didn’t get his hair wet on their picket line.

90 school workers have been taking strike action at The Orchard School since June.

Tram expansion 🤝 economic growth. James Naish, MP for Rushcliffe gets it.

And he’s backing GMB’s call to expand Nottinghamshire’s network. Let’s make it happen. 🚊

Airport workers routinely face unacceptable abuse on the job. 72% of airport workers report feeling unsafe at work due to passenger aggression. GMB stands with our Airport Workers Against Abuse and demand a zero-tolerance approach backed by legislation.

That’s why we’ve teamed up with Dave Robertson MP for Lichfield, Burntwood and the Villages in calling on Parliamentary authorities to buy British in any refurb of the Parliamentary estate.

GMB members on the factory floor at Glen Dimplex in Dudley are extending an invite to management to come and show them how workers can move 3000 bricks a shift instead of 2000.

Management have so far offered no solutions, no investment and no training to achieve this 50% workload increase.

Until they can demonstrate it is feasible and safe, management will need to come back to the table and negotiate a settlement that protects our members health and wellbeing.

Workers of South Asian heritage helped build the Midlands.

This South Asian Heritage Month, GMB Midlands is promoting and funding tickets to Saris of Strength - a powerful screening and panel marking 50 years since the Grunwick dispute.

This month's theme is Unity in Diversity. But for us, it's not just a slogan—it's how we win. We are the workers. We are stronger when we stand shoulder to shoulder. And together, we win.
