Today is Intersex Awareness Day!

Intersex is an often misunderstood subject, so on this day we raise visibility for those who identify as Intersex!

Myths about Intersex:

Myth 1: Everybody is either born male or female
πŸ‘« Many have sexual characteristics that don't fit typically male or female bodies

Myth 2: Being intersex is very rare
πŸ“Š The number of Intersex people is about the same as the number of people with red hair!

Myth 3: Being intersex is a condition that needs to be corrected
😠 Surgical intervention can be more harmful. Instead we should combat harmful stereotypes about gender

Myth 4: Intersex people are transgender.
πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ Some might be, but not all. The term Intersex relates to physical characteristics more than an internal sense of identity.

Myth 5: No one is speaking out for intersex people
πŸ“£ We are!

It's Asexuality Awareness Week πŸ–€πŸ©ΆπŸ€πŸ’œ

Also known as ACE week, this week we raise visibility for those who identify as Asexual or Aromantic.

Asexuality is a sexual orientation where a person experiences little to no sexual attraction to anyone and/or does not experience desire for sexual contact.

Some people might also identify as Aromantic and may choose to be in a committed relationship that is entirely non-romantic in nature. For aromantic people in these relationships, commitment might include raising children together, sharing living expenses, or living together long-term.

Today is International Pronouns Day! πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

On this day we raise awareness about the use of gendered and non-gendered pronouns. The pronouns we use form part of our identity, and for many who identify as trans or non-binary, it is particularly important.

There are many pronouns people may go by, and it is common courtesy to try and respect that by using the right ones. The LGBT Foundation has a great guide to understanding pronouns: https://lgbt.foundation/help/understanding-pronouns/

Today is National Coming Out Day! πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

Coming out is a unique and sometimes difficult experience for many LGBTQIA+ people and they may have to do it more than once throughout their lives telling different people when they feel ready.

It's important to mark the bravery it takes as well as to appreciate those that may not feel able to express who they are.

National Coming Out Day originally marked the one year anniversary of the march on Washington for Le***an and Gay rights in 1987 but has become a globally recognised day.

Whether you're in or out or somewhere in between, the OutBurst team is proud of you! β€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ
