Help us to protect the UoN Music Department

Hi Blowsoc community. Here with some more ways in which you can help to protect the music department.

-COMPLETE THE SURVEY: Lucy Baker, a fantastic long running Blowsoc member, has helped us to create a survey to be distributed amongst the music societies, to collect some clear data on the impact of the music department on the lives of those affiliated with it. Elements of the results will then go in a letter to the Vice Chancellor; it will help us to have some clear statistics to back up testimonials. Please do take the time to fill in this survey.

On Thursday, the University of Nottingham announced it's decision to suspend intake for the music degree, amongst others, for the 2025-2026 year, pending a final decision on whether to remove the degrees permanently. We, as Blowsoc and Mussoc, believe this to be an incredibly short sighted decision....

Music Course Suspension

Hi - Hannah here.

Unfortunately, the decision has been made to suspend the recruitment of many undergraduate degree programmes for the 26/27 year, including Music. This may result in a permanent suspension of the Music course.

As many of you know, the Music Department is instrumental to the running of Blowsoc. Primarily, it provides us with a place to play, and with a support system. Furthermore, many of our Artistic and Executive roles are Music student driven.

However, this has even wider implications for Music Education. This decision will not support the future of Music in Nottingham, and if a permanent suspension is decided on, will have massive implications on Music dept staff and students.

What you can do: If you are interested in expressing your support for the efforts of those who are protecting the department, please email the following address, and spread the message to other alumni.

Hello lovely people. I’m Hannah, Blowsoc’s 25/26 President, and I thought I’d welcome to another lovely year of Blowsoc!💙

Our exec team are really looking forward to this year, and are in the midst of planning concerts, socials, and a tour to Belgium 🇧🇪

If you’re new here; welcome! The start of term is a really exciting time for us, and we have lots of exciting events planned. If you follow this page, we will keep you all up to date with all of our events.
