As the Branch Black Members’ Officer, I personally wanted to take this opportunity to inform our Black Members and Allies of the upcoming Black History Month (BHM) celebration on Monday, 17th November 2025.

Black History Month celebration 2025 theme is “Standing Firm in Power and Pride,” a powerful tribute to the resilience, strength and unwavering commitment to progress that defines Black communities globally. (blackhisotrymonth.org.uk)
We are planning speakers, presenters, cultural performers, and a light lunch. Our Unison NUH Branch is among the sponsors and will host an information stall.

UNISON charity 'There for You' will be opening applications for a seasonal food fund on the 30th September 2025 for 24 hours. The fund will give out £30 voucher per qualifying person in your house hold.

UNISON want to help as many people in need as possible so please only apply if you are in financial difficulty and meet the criteria!

Each of us is one pay check or illness away from poverty. Meanwhile billionaires pay a smaller proportion of taxes than any of us. The two are related. This is an injustice.

University bosses ignored our fully costed plan to protect jobs.
They’re pressing ahead with damaging cuts in Phase One - and threatening more to come.
They refused to listen to staff.

Now it’s our turn to speak - and we will speak loudly.

📣 Megan Wilson-Ibbotson, our Assistant Branch Secretary, spoke at the rally against job cuts at the University of Nottingham in solidarity with UCU - University and College Union and University of Nottingham Unison branch members.

🚩 UCU voted to strike and you can support their picket lines today at the University Park West Entrance any time between 8am and 3pm and at the North entrance, from 8am to 11 am. Cutting 356 jobs is unacceptable and all trade unions must oppose them everywhere!

✋✋ 2 weeks ago our HCAs on the picket lines voted YES to 4 weeks of strike action in August if NUH bosses don't put forward a decent backpay offer in the upcoming negotiations.

🚩📣 Our members just want a fair settlement of this dispute and UNISON is going to put the offer to a vote if NUH takes a serious approach and offers more than the insulting (1) extra day of annual leave.

Our members are ready and they are watching!

Today, hundreds rallied at the University of Nottingham to oppose 356 job cuts. Cleaners, techs, admin, library staff - vital workers facing the axe.

📣 On Thursday, the final day of the two week strike action our Healthcare Assistants marched to the NUH Trust Board meeting to ask the Execs a question about the dispute.

Our member Simon asked them to offer a serious back pay settlement after the inadequate offer of 1 extra day of annual leave. NUH our HCAs are watching! ✊
