"Projected Long-Term Climate Change Impacts on Rainfed Durum Wheat Production and Sustainable Adaptation Strategies"

🌡️ Why is this research important?
Rainfed durum wheat is a staple crop in Mediterranean agriculture, but climate change threatens its long-term sustainability. This study provides scientific insights and adaptation strategies to secure global food production under future climate scenarios.

📌 Key Findings:
✅ Climate models project a 4°C temperature rise and a 37% decrease in rainfall by the late 21st century, severely affecting wheat yields.
✅ Crop cycles will shorten by 5 days per decade, leading to increased water stress and reduced grain production.
✅ Water demand for irrigation will rise to 736 mm per season, requiring urgent improvements in water efficiency.
✅ Adjusting sowing dates from September to December can help stabilize yields and mitigate climate risks.
✅ Policy and sustainable adaptation strategies are essential to enhance agricultural resilience and reduce yield losses.

🌱 What does this mean for the future?
This study is a call to action for scientists, policymakers, and agricultural stakeholders to develop climate-resilient farming strategies that ensure global food security.
