🎬 'When I Didn’t Have Words' is heading to the Big Screen THIS SUNDAY! 🎬

Our film, 'When I Didn’t Have Words', has been officially selected for the Short Stack Film Showcase at Broadway Cinema THIS SUNDAY! Join us this Sunday 31st May, to see our 'creative journey to recovery' on the big screen. ✨

This project has been such a meaningful journey for us, and seeing it recognised by the local film community is a proud moment for everyone involved.

🌟 About the Film
Created in collaboration with Media Trust, Rumpus Animation, Wounded Buffalo Sound Studios, and Republic of Imagination, this film uses creative animation to explore a child’s path to recovery from trauma. By utilising animation, we ensured that safeguarding remained our top priority, allowing us to tell a powerful story without the risk of re-traumatisation.

The film captures the essence of Imara’s work:

Child-Centred: Keeping the child’s voice at the heart of the narrative.

Creative & Holistic: Reflecting our therapeutic approach to healing.

Realistic: Acknowledging that recovery is a complex, non-linear journey.

We are so grateful for the opportunity to share this creative journey to recovery with a wider audience at Broadway. It’s a vital tool for raising awareness about how abuse affects young lives and the transformative power of the right support.

✨ Young people teach us so much - about resilience, creativity, courage, and hope✨

In our work at Imara, we are constantly reminded that the greatest teachers don't always stand at the front of a classroom. Sometimes, they are the very children and young people walking through our doors.

Every single day, we see their immense strength. It isn't always loud or demanding attention; more often, it’s found in the quiet, brave choices they make to keep moving forward. We see it when they:

🎨 Use art and creativity to express feelings that are too heavy for words.

🌱 Step out of their comfort zone to try a new grounding technique or activity.

🌬️ Take a deep breath and keep going, even when the world around them feels incredibly difficult.

Trauma can steal a lot from a childhood, but it cannot dim the vibrant, courageous spirit of these young people. Their resilience is about the incredible ways they adapt, heal, and find their voice again.

We are deeply honoured to walk alongside them on this journey. Our role isn't to fix them, but to offer a steady anchor: a safe, trauma-informed space where they can simply be, express themselves without judgment, and find the room they need to grow at their own pace.

They inspire our team every day to keep pushing for a safer, more compassionate community.

🌳 Let’s celebrate them today.

Share this message to show your support and celebrate the incredible strength, voice, and heart of the young people in our community. They are the future, and they deserve to know we are standing right behind them. 💛

✨ Healing takes time - and that’s okay. ✨

In a world that often demands quick fixes and fast results, it’s easy to forget that recovering from trauma doesn't happen overnight. It isn't a straight line, a race, or a journey with a predictable timeline.

For many of the young people we support at Imara, progress isn’t always about sudden, dramatic breakthroughs. More often, it’s found in the quiet, subtle shifts that happen over time.

Progress is:

🌱 Feeling a little bit safer in a room today than they did last week.

🌬️ Finding a moment of calm using a grounding technique when anxiety rises.

🗣️ Feeling just a little more understood by the adults around them.

🧸 Reclaiming a piece of their childhood, one small step at a time.

At Imara, we don’t rush the process. We walk right alongside young people at their own pace, providing a trauma-informed space where they feel heard, validated, and secure. We are there to celebrate every single step forward, no matter how small it might seem to the outside world - because we know those small steps build the foundation for long-term recovery.

🌳 How You Can Stand With Us
We cannot do this vital work alone. It takes a community to give families the time and resources they need to heal.

Share this message: Help us break the stigma and spread a deeper understanding of trauma recovery.

Become a monthly supporter: Consistent funding allows us to commit to long-term therapeutic journeys for children across Nottinghamshire, ensuring we can stay by their side for as long as it takes.
