JRP has been running for over twenty-five years and is making a difference in the lives of many, by showing love and giving practical help to women affected by the s*x industry in Nottinghamshire. We work in partnership with a number of churches in the city.
At full capacity we offer the following:
- Drop In: Our base is open for drop-in on Wednesday and Friday afternoons (1-3pm), providing
a safe place for s*x workers to visit us and get support. They can experience a loving and non-judgemental environment, access information and referrals, rest and recuperate, and be provided with a hot meal, drinks, snacks, clothing, toiletries, bath/shower, bathroom & laundry facilities.
- Street Outreach: Up to three nights a week, volunteer teams take to the streets in the project's minibus, meeting women in the red light district. They provide a listening ear along with a hot drink, food and prayer if the women would like some.
- Off-Street Outreach (currently suspended): A team visit women working off street, offering a chaplaincy service and friendship to those they meet. They also take luxury home baked goods as a practical demonstration of God's love.
- Prison Visiting and Resettlement: Staff and volunteers work with women in prison, visiting them 1 or 2 times a month and assisting with resettlement following their release.
- Bible Studies: On Friday mornings, our volunteer teams lead female prisoners through different passages of the Bible, discussing its meaning and inviting them to share their thoughts.
- Create: New Beginnings: On Friday afternoons, our teams run an art therapy course with female prisoners, exploring different emotions. This is a 10-week course that runs up to twice per year.
- Befriending: Volunteers build up good relationships with women. They often meet for coffee and can offer a simple friendship, advocacy and support, discipleship or build up confidence in basic life skills.
We are blessed with a number of volunteers without whom the running of this project would not be possible. There are a number of volunteering opportunities across the project, both in-person with our service users and behind-the-scenes. Head to the ‘Get Involved’ page of our website to find out more. We offer full training and support to all our volunteers.
We are also available to come and do a talk or presentation at your church or community group, to share about the project and the work that we do.
