The Jericho Road Project

The Jericho Road Project The Jericho Road Project is an independent charity showing Jesus’ love and hope to those affected by the s*x industry in Nottinghamshire.

JRP has been running for over twenty-five years and is making a difference in the lives of many, by showing love and giving practical help to women affected by the s*x industry in Nottinghamshire. We work in partnership with a number of churches in the city.

At full capacity we offer the following:
- Drop In: Our base is open for drop-in on Wednesday and Friday afternoons (1-3pm), providing

a safe place for s*x workers to visit us and get support. They can experience a loving and non-judgemental environment, access information and referrals, rest and recuperate, and be provided with a hot meal, drinks, snacks, clothing, toiletries, bath/shower, bathroom & laundry facilities.

- Street Outreach: Up to three nights a week, volunteer teams take to the streets in the project's minibus, meeting women in the red light district. They provide a listening ear along with a hot drink, food and prayer if the women would like some.

- Off-Street Outreach (currently suspended): A team visit women working off street, offering a chaplaincy service and friendship to those they meet. They also take luxury home baked goods as a practical demonstration of God's love.

- Prison Visiting and Resettlement: Staff and volunteers work with women in prison, visiting them 1 or 2 times a month and assisting with resettlement following their release.

- Bible Studies: On Friday mornings, our volunteer teams lead female prisoners through different passages of the Bible, discussing its meaning and inviting them to share their thoughts.

- Create: New Beginnings: On Friday afternoons, our teams run an art therapy course with female prisoners, exploring different emotions. This is a 10-week course that runs up to twice per year.

- Befriending: Volunteers build up good relationships with women. They often meet for coffee and can offer a simple friendship, advocacy and support, discipleship or build up confidence in basic life skills.

We are blessed with a number of volunteers without whom the running of this project would not be possible. There are a number of volunteering opportunities across the project, both in-person with our service users and behind-the-scenes. Head to the ‘Get Involved’ page of our website to find out more. We offer full training and support to all our volunteers.

We are also available to come and do a talk or presentation at your church or community group, to share about the project and the work that we do.

Mental Health Awareness Week 💚

Take a look at some more ways women can access our support to help improve their mental wellbeing. These steps might seem small, but they can have a big impact on helping women feel safe, welcome and valued.

Many of the women we support often go without the essentials needed to stay healthy. At Jericho Road Project, we aim to provide a place where women feel safe and welcome to spend time resting and recharging.

We do our best to meet the needs of our service users in a holistic way. This post specifically highlights some of the practical ways we encourage women to care for themselves and build their self-worth with dignity.

Mental Health Awareness Week 💚

At Jericho Road Project, we support women facing a range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, BPD and Bipolar Disorder. Swipe to see the different ways we support service users with their mental health.

As a small organisation, we aim to do our best to support our women in these ways during our office hours, but we can’t do it alone. The dedication of our volunteer team helps make this support possible, and we are so grateful for their time, care and compassion.

This year, the theme for Mental Health Awareness week (as set by Mental Health Foundation) is 'Take Action'. We encourage you to think about how you can take action to support women's mental health and get involved in our work.

📧 Email us at [email protected] to find out more about the ways you can volunteer with us!

Could you, your small group, or a few friends help support women in need?

Jericho Road Project is currently running low on tinned meals (such as soups and pasta), and we need your help so we can continue making up food parcels for the women we support.

If you’re able to donate, please call us on 0115 845 3691 or email [email protected] before dropping off donations to make sure someone will be in. Thank you 😍🥫

We recently visited Heart Church and are so grateful for the warm welcome we received 🩷

Kez spoke on a panel and shared about the work of Jericho Road Project, and Lucy joined her at our stand to enjoy lots of great conversations after the services. We’re so encouraged that 25 amazing people signed up to hear more about volunteering with us - wow!

Thank you, Heart Church, for your generosity and support. We really appreciate you!

On Wednesday, our prison team spent some time together - enjoying delicious food (thank you, Lydia!), sharing experiences, and supporting one another as we reflected on all that volunteering within the prison project area brings.

Kez delivered training on responding to disclosures, and we worked through scenarios in small groups. We finished by praying for the work of Jericho Road Project and for those we journey alongside.

We are so incredibly thankful for the commitment of our wonderful volunteers 🙏🧡
