Rotary District Governor Visit
We were delighted to welcome our District Governor, Rob Morrison for his annual official Club visit. He first inducted our Junior Vice President, past president Dick Knight, who had recently put his name forward for the position. Kewal welcomed Dick to his team. Rob, who hails from Retford RC, will be in place for two years, enabling him to carry out more lasting improvements than a one year period would have enabled him to do. He outlined the objective for clubs and Rotarians and gave us a very positive lead to the future. Rotarian Roger Alton gave the vote of thanks and wished him well in his efforts.

Our young Long Eaton School Eco-Interactors held their Charter Evening with President Antoni Penev. We celebrated our 44th Charter Anniversary with a dinner at Cleve Lodge. We welcomed Deputy Lieutenant Peter McCrea and District Governor Rob Morrison.

It was a fabulous evening of celebration and music with three students from The Long Eaton School entertaining us with a variety of songs. Pianist Michael Aanonson played an amazing array of music on the baby grand piano.

Over the year the Eco-Interactors have been very busy raising money for various projects. The sponsored swim undertaken earlier in the year raised a total of £553 for the Canaan Trust, well done swimmers! Just over £200 was collected for Eradicate Polio and £116 for The Little Princess Trust.

President Antoni sang a wonderful rendition of 'I did it my way' and Nicole and Grace also entertained us with their beautiful singing. Our thanks to Mr Mendham for accompanying our vocalists on the piano. Special thanks were also given to Mr Mitchell and Mrs McGlouchlin of the Long Eaton School for all their help and support during the past year.

Eighteen members and friends enjoyed an excellent evening of bowls. Help and instruction was provided by three bowls experts, Jackie, Bruce and Pat who each oversaw one lane's activities. After an hour and a half and eight ends the standard had improved considerably. We then had refreshments, a buffet and a raffle. The winners were announced by Jackie who presented them with a trophy.

Thanks to Barbara James and to all who made the evening such an enjoyable success.

Last Monday evening members welcomed John Wheatley as our guest speaker. John is endeavouring to create a Film Festival in Erewash. His idea is for groups of film makers to produce a short film of no more than 15 minutes which will be shown on a large screen in the High St of Long Eaton. It is hoped that the public will be encouraged to visit the town to view the films and afterwards use the cafes and bars which will bring revenue to these businesses.

To encourage participants a prize of £2,500 will be on offer to the winner, All films will be available on You Tube. Schools and local film societies will all be invited to take part. Long term it is planned to hold Comedy Festivals in the town. Those producing films will be carrying out community service in Erewash as payback. Obviously this project will require funding and John is asking local businesses and other organisations for contributions. A total of £7500 is envisaged to get the project started. President Keith Randall thanked John on behalf of the members and wished him well with this new idea to promote Long Eaton GM
