UNISON has around 63,000 young members. If you are a UNISON member and under 27 years of age you are automatically entitled to participate as a young member. Why not get involved and help us campaign for the issues affecting young workers.

Day 1 of our 2025 Training weekend

Scott begun the day with a training session on "Activists, Leaders and Growing Trade Unions". We discussed the importance of having both activists and natural leaders in our Union and how to find and organise natural leaders.

In the afternoon he lead the session "Striking to win: strike action, common objections and how to overcome them." Megan spoke about her experiences of Pay fair for patient care at Nottingham University Hospitals and the recent strike action there.

Sarah and Tasha then lead a session about their experiences as part of the Young Workers Mayday parade in Cuba and we had discussions about what we could do to support Cuba and show solidarity. We watched the short film "from Gaza to Cuba" about a refugee who was given the opportunity to train to be a doctor in Cuba as part of their commitment to showing solidarity to the people of Palestine.

UNISON charity 'There for You' will be opening applications for a seasonal food fund on the 30th September 2025 for 24 hours. The fund will give out £30 voucher per qualifying person in your house hold.

UNISON want to help as many people in need as possible so please only apply if you are in financial difficulty and meet the criteria!

✨Our recent Young Members Forum Meeting in Leicester✨

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Leicester for our recent forum meeting followed by Leicester Pride. We hope you had a great day and it was lovely to see so many new faces!

We've attended lots of pride events across the region this year to show our solidarity and support with the LGBT+ community, in particular our trans siblings who face unprecedented hatred and discrimination. Pride will always be a protest, and is a protest that we must remember all year round, to continue to fight to protect the LGBT+ community! 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️

Thank you to everyone who applied to be a delegate to our Young Members Training weekend or National Young Members Conference.

We had record numbers apply (almost 40 to both events) and we are sorry if you've missed out this year! If we have any last minute spots become available we will contact everyone on the waiting list and fill the spots at a first come basis.

On Monday there was a joint UNISON/UCU rally at the uni of Nottingham: fighting back against proposed cuts and mandatory redundancies.

Our co chair Megan spoke about the HCA strikes currently taking place in her branch, Nottingham University Hospitals.

UCU have a day of strike action on the 24th July, with potentially more dates to come! If you have availability go support them on the picket lines!

This edition discusses the Young Member Brigade to Cuba and Palestine Solidarity Campaign action across the region.

It's amazing to see so many young members in the newsletter, recognising their continued work in international solidarity campaigns.
