💛 Loneliness Awareness Week 💛

Loneliness is something many of us experience — yet so often, it goes unspoken.
This week is all about starting conversations, breaking the stigma, and reminding each other that it’s okay to feel this way. When we open up, we create understanding. When we reach out, we build connection.

By coming together through simple activities and shared moments, we can help create a stronger sense of belonging in our communities — because no one should feel alone.

✨ Want to meet new people and feel more connected?

Our Social Calendar events have been amazing creating friendships and a real community feel .

We’ve got something for everyone — from fun activities to great opportunities to connect with others.

📅 Our Social Calendar for June 2026 – March 2027 is here!
Spaces fill up quickly, so be sure to get in early and secure your place.

✨ And don’t miss out on our brand-new Christmas Lunch — it’s set to be extra special this year!

✨ Want to meet new people and feel more connected?

Our Companion Service can help you become more socially active, whether that’s in your home or out and about in the community. We want to make it possible for you to still enjoy your life and to do the things that mean something to you with the support of a carefully chosen volunteer companion. 💙 Day 7 – Thank You

As Volunteers’ Week comes to a close, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to every one of our incredible volunteers.

Your kindness, compassion, and dedication make a real difference every single day. Because of you, older people across our community feel less lonely, more supported, and able to live life with dignity and joy.

You give your time, your energy, your skills- and so much of yourselves - and we truly couldn’t do what we do without you. ❤️

While this week may be ending, our appreciation doesn’t stop here. We will continue to celebrate everything you do, all year round.

💬 Could you help make a difference too?
By volunteering just one hour of your time, your talents, enthusiasm, and energy help us deliver essential support.

💙 Day 6 – Volunteers’ Week

A Day in the Life…
This Volunteers’ Week, we’re shining a spotlight on Claire, a Dementia Support volunteer at Sybil’s - our SPECAL-led day service for people living with dementia and their carers.

Claire starts her day helping the team prepare activities and refreshments before warmly welcoming our friends as they arrive. Throughout the morning, she spends meaningful one-to-one time chatting about familiar topics, offering reassurance, and helping everyone feel relaxed and included.

At lunchtime, everyone comes together to share a meal - an important part of the day that brings conversation, connection and a real sense of community 💙

In the afternoon, activities vary depending on the day. This might include time in the garden - either getting involved with light gardening or simply enjoying the fresh air - or joining in with a singalong around the piano, often filled with laughter and favourite songs.

💬 “It’s incredibly rewarding. There is so much joy and laughter at Sybil’s. I can see every day the difference it makes to people’s lives.” ❤️
Thank you, Claire, for your kindness, dedication, and the difference you make every single week. ✨

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: Ken 🌟

Ken is one of our super Companion Service volunteers at Age UK Nottingham & Nottinghamshire. At the amazing age of 94, he has been volunteering with us for over a year! 💛
Ken currently supports a local gentleman, alongside his own family commitments and volunteering with another befriending charity. His dedication to helping others is truly inspiring.
He is always cheerful, positive, and ready to support anyone in need. We are so grateful to Ken for giving his time and for making such a difference to people who might otherwise feel isolated in our community.

Thank you, Ken, you really are an amazing volunteer! 👏

🎉 Day 4 – Volunteers’ Week

Volunteering isn’t just about our services. Our social events help people stay active, connected, and enjoying life - and they offer brilliant opportunities to get involved too.

From Afternoon Teas and Art Tasters to Line Dancing, there’s something for everyone.

Our November Fashion Show was a huge success, with staff and volunteers lighting up the catwalk in styles from Seasalt, M&S, Next and more ✨
Volunteer Jen, from our Companion Service, took part and said:

💬 “I didn’t know anyone at first, but everyone made me feel so welcome and we had a good laugh… I had a great time on the day.”
We’re so grateful to everyone who gets involved - helping us raise vital funds to support local older people.

Volunteers’ Week 🎉- Day 3

Carol has been a dedicated Companion Service volunteer with Age UK Notts since 2022, giving her time to help reduce loneliness for local older people 💙

After retiring early, she wanted to make a difference - and has done just that. From sharing stories and cups of tea with Betty*, to now visiting Bob* each week, Carol brings warmth, patience, and genuine companionship to every visit.

She takes time to listen, reconnect people with conversations that matter, and even prepares topics in advance to keep spirits high. Thanks to Carol, people like Bob* have something to look forward to each week - and someone who truly cares.

⭐ Volunteers like Carol are helping to lift loneliness and change lives across Nottinghamshire.
Thank you, Carol - you’re an inspiration.
🌟 Help us inspire someone new to volunteer.

💬 Have your say on adult social care in Nottingham

Adult social care matters to all of us – whether you use services, care for someone, work in health and care, or are part of our community.

Nottingham City Council wants to shape a system that:
✅ Supports independence and choice
✅ Acts early to prevent need
✅ Helps people stay connected and live meaningful lives

Through our Gloriously Ordinary Lives strategy, we’re working towards a future where people can live happily at home, surrounded by the people and things they love – with the right support when they need it.

But we can’t do this without you.
We want to hear about:
👉 Your experiences of adult social care
👉 What’s working well
👉 What could be improved
👉 What really matters to you

Your feedback will help us design better, more accessible services for everyone.
