A small Nottinghamshire based charity that strives to enable disadvantaged Young People to pull themselves and each other out of poverty by creating a safe, caring and supportive environment to promote their strengths, abilities and giving them the employability and entrepreneurial skills they need to achieve their ambition.
The charity was setup by Kurtis-Jay who has alway had a passion for helping young people to achieve their ambition regardless of their issues. This has been driven by his own issues; that being dyslexia, however that hasn’t stopped him because to date Kurtis has not only served in the armed forces, he has been a member of two institutes, Chartered Management Institute and International Association of Bookkeepers although he chose not to renew his memberships with iva institute.
Kurtis has a Certificate of higher education in business & management, and is continuing his studies towards BA in Business Management. Furthermore, he is a qualified small business accountant.
Kurtis was also joined by Charlotte who has always had an interested in helping young people, prior to her involvement with the charity she had volunteered at one of the local primary school on number of occasion and now she is studying towards BA in Youth Studies.
Charlotte has also taken part in the Prince’s Trust Enterprise and Team program, this means she has a lot to bring to the charity because of her involvement with these two programs during that time she met Jade who join us shortly after the charity was set-up, Jade was a team leader on the Princes Trust Team Program.
Together we have developed and enhanced programs like the ‘employability program’ which engages with young people in order to help them to identify the skills needed for the world of work. It delivers a range of activities that help our young people to identify the effects of good communication skills in the workplace, it also looks at aspects of non-verbal communication skills and how it can interpret on the organisation. It also, aids our young people to identify the 'softer skills' they require to develop, into helping them on their career path and to also support them with overcoming challenges confidently.
At the start of the year they celebrated after being awarded funding from the National Lottery Funding for their employability program. In addition, the academy has it’s Youth Enterprise Challenge, to find the next generation of upcoming entrepreneurs.
The Youth Enterprise Challenge is for young people aged 11- 24 who want to get a flavour of what it’s like to be an entrepreneur. It gives them a chance to think of a new business idea and make it happen, using real money to take calculated risks in the business field, make a profit – and make a difference.
Last but not the least we also have an annual award ceremony for young people between the ages of 11-25, this is to help boost confidence in those who deserve it and to cheer on and encourage them. By recognising the young person who has been given the award may end up encouraging others by going above and beyond within their local community.
