On 13 October, UNISON members from across the country will head to London to lobby parliament for proper investment in our public services.

Last week UNISON members from the East Midlands joined migrant workers from all over the country at the Labour Party Conference.

We danced, we sang and we made our message for the Government clear:

1️⃣ 𝗡𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Workers were promised a route to settlement after 5 years. This promised needs to be honoured.
2️⃣ 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀’ 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀: Employers should never be able to use a worker’s immigration status to control, silence or exploit them.
3️⃣ 𝗔 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝘆 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: All care workers deserve fair pay and better conditions for the work they do to look after our families.

Councils are essential to improving lives and supporting communities, to do this they need proper funding.

After more than a decade of cuts, councils across the East Midlands face a funding shortfall of over £24 million. That’s the gap between the money needed to provide vital local services and the funding available to deliver them.

Throughout the month we'll celebrate the history, achievements and resilience of Black communities across the UK.

It's also a time to reflect on the inequalities and racism that persist, and to renew our commitment to challenging discrimination, advancing equality and organising for lasting change.

Today, Health and Social Care Secretary Yvette Cooper announced a new national collective pension scheme for adult social care workers

UNSION Regional Organiser, Matt Dwyer, says this is welcome news for care workers in the East Midlands. But cautions that the government must now work with unions and care workers to deliver a properly funded, accessible scheme that works for everyone in the sector.

📢 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗮𝘅𝗲𝘀, so those with the broadest shoulders pay their fair share.

Every day, UNISON members show up for patients, pupils, service users and communities. 𝗦𝗜𝗚𝗡 𝗨𝗣 𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗞 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦 and, on 13 October, let’s show up in Westminster and make sure the people in power hear us.
