🎉 Welcoming our 2026 Scholars

Behind every project is a scholar who has made a deliberate decision to step beyond what they already know, to test their thinking in new environments, and to return with something that holds value beyond themselves.

🎉 This year, we are welcoming two individuals whose work reflects that commitment - Dr Ella Hartshorn and Sam Bigland

Our 2026 Scholars have unique projects that will be sure to amplify them in their fields. For now, here are the project titles:

📚 Dr Ella Hartshorn will be exploring:
Lessons from the United States: Supporting the LGBTQ+ community in times of increasing socio-political stress.

📚 Sam Bigland will be exploring:
Active Defence: Gamifying Digital Safety for the Next Generation.

Over the coming week, we will be sharing more about each project, the thinking behind it, and the direction each scholar is taking.

👏 A huge congratulations to Ella and Sam!

🤝 This is where the work begins to take shape.

We’ve hit the ground running in 2026, beginning the year with our first Board of Trustees meeting.

As we look ahead, we’re focused on strengthening the scholarship experience for both future scholars and our alumni. That means paying close attention to how the world is changing and ensuring the scholarship continues to offer meaningful opportunity and long term impact.

Our commitment is to stay ahead of the curve, so we can better support the leaders who will shape what comes next.

On Saturday a few of our alumni got together to socialise and work on keeping the scholarship going! Did you know trust we’re entirely volunteer run and our alumni keep the scholarship alive by donating their time 🤩
We spent Saturday working on shortlisting for our 2026 scholars, thinking about our marketing and fundraising and improving our mentoring offer.

⏰ Today is the final day to apply for the Nottingham Roosevelt Memorial Travelling Scholarship.

Applications close tonight - 30th January 2026.

The scholarship exists to give people time and space to step away from day-to-day pressures, travel, and properly explore a project that matters - with the expectation that learning is brought back to strengthen Nottinghamshire.

To be eligible, applicants must:
* Be aged 21-35 on 1st September 2026
* Live or work in Nottinghamshire
* Be in employment or self-employment, in any sector
* Be able to travel to the United States during the scholarship year
