NACCC Parenting doesn’t end when relationships do. We set the standard for safe, child-centred family time across the UK. It is the largest in Europe.

Parenting shouldn’t end when relationships do

Adult relationships can remain difficult after parents separate or divorce. Yet the majority of children want, and need, to maintain a relationship with parents and other relatives who are important to them. NACCC is the accrediting membership body for around 350 child contact centres and services located throughout England (including the Channel Isle

s), Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Child contact centres and services are neutral places where children of separated families can enjoy contact with their non-resident parents and sometimes other family members, in a comfortable and safe environment. Centres are run by a variety of independent organisations that form the membership of NACCC. Child contact services are classified into two distinct categories, supported and supervised (which handle cases with safeguarding issues), so that families can be referred to an appropriate environment and level of support. Families have to apply to go to a contact centre, either directly or they may be helped to apply by a mediation service, solicitor, Cafcass officer or social worker.

🔦 Shining a Spotlight on Happy Heaven Child Contact Centre ✨

The team at NACCC enhanced-accredited Happy Heaven Child Contact Centre recently celebrated the official opening of their new Bury branch, welcoming the Mayor of Bury Tahir Rafiq Solicitor and NACCC Chair Sharon Scott to mark the occasion.

The event was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the dedication of staff and volunteers, who continue to provide vital support for children and families through safe and supportive child contact services.

As part of her visit programme, Sharon also recently visited Buzz Family Centre in Sheffield and The Vine Child Contact Centre in Leeds. NACCC trustees regularly visit our members across the UK to gain a first-hand understanding of how centres operate on the ground, helping inform how NACCC can support centres most effectively.

👏 Congratulations to the entire Happy Heaven team on this exciting milestone, and thank you for your continued commitment to supporting children, young people, and families.

✨ NACCC was pleased to partner with the Ministry of Justice UK for a recent online Local Family Justice Board awareness event focused on strengthening support pathways for families through child contact centres.

The event brought together more than 150 attendees, including magistrates, judges, family justice professionals, and NACCC-accredited members, to explore how strong local partnerships and effective referral routes can help families access timely, child-focused support during separation.

NACCC CEO Elizabeth Coe presented alongside NACCC-accredited members Buzz Sheffield and Tiny Hearts, showcasing the diversity of services delivered across NACCC’s network and the important role child contact centres play in supporting children to maintain safe family relationships.

Topics included:
🔹 Strengthening local links with mediators, solicitors, Cafcass practitioners, domestic abuse services, and community organisations
🔹 Reducing delays and improving referral pathways for families
🔹 The Judicial Protocol and the importance of early, collaborative intervention
🔹 NACCC’s Find a Centre Tool and improving access to accredited services
🔹 Specialist, sensory-informed support for children with additional needs
🔹 Holistic, whole-family and trauma-informed approaches to supporting family time
🔹 Highlighting differences between Supported and Supervised child contact services

Buzz shared its community hub approach for separated families, highlighting how practitioners identify wider support needs during family time and help parents access local services including parenting programmes, domestic abuse support, mental health services, and family transition support. Their presentation reinforced the importance of providing holistic support for families and creating welcoming spaces where parents and children can access help beyond contact arrangements alone.

Tiny Hearts, Ilford highlighted its specialist sensory-informed approach for children with autism, ADHD, anxiety, and additional needs, demonstrating how adaptive environments and trauma-aware practice can help children feel safe and supported during family time.

A huge thank you to Buzz and Tiny Hearts for delivering such insightful presentations and helping to showcase the breadth, innovation, and impact of services provided through NACCC-accredited centres ⭐️

Events like this play an important role in strengthening collaboration across the sector and supporting safe, child-focused contact arrangements for children and families.

🎉 We’re absolutely delighted to share that Our Dance: Living Apart, Time Together by Circle Yuen has been shortlisted for the Klaus Flugge Prize 2026 🏆

Established in 2016, the Klaus Flugge Prize recognises the most promising and exciting newcomers to children’s picture book illustration and is regarded as one of the most significant awards in the industry. From a longlist of 18 titles, just six books have now been shortlisted 📚

Published by Graffeg in collaboration with NACCC, Our Dance is the first UK picture book to introduce young readers to child contact centres. Told through the eyes of a child navigating parental separation, the story gently explores themes of co-parenting, resilience and connection, using dance as a powerful metaphor for change.

The judges praised Our Dance, commenting that the illustrations “really tug on our heartstrings,” highlighting how Circle's “style and way of working give the illustrations a rawness and make them feel very immediate and atmospheric.”

We are incredibly proud to be collaborating with Circle on this heartfelt and impactful project, helping to raise awareness of the vital role child contact centres play in supporting children and families during times of transition.

Congratulations to Circle, Graffeg, and all the talented illustrators shortlisted this year. We look forward to the winner being announced at the awards ceremony at The Art Workers' Guild, London, on 9 September 2026 ⭐️

We were delighted to see Circle Yuen attend the Klaus Flugge Prize 2026 longlist celebration at Waterstones Piccadilly last night. 📚

Bringing together this year’s longlisted illustrators, the event featured 2026 judges and renowned author-illustrators Rob Biddulph and Emma Farrarons in conversation with Lucy Bannerman (The Times and The Sunday Times), celebrating the talent recognised on this year’s longlist.

We’re incredibly proud to be collaborating with Circle on Our Dance: Living Apart, Time Together - the first UK picture book to introduce young readers to child contact centres. Published by Graffeg in June 2025, it explores themes of separation, co-parenting and resilience, offering comfort and reassurance to children and families navigating change.

The Klaus Flugge Prize is awarded annually to the most promising and exciting newcomer to children’s book illustration and is regarded as one of the most significant awards in the UK. This year, 18 books have been longlisted.

The shortlist will be announced on 14 May, with the winner revealed at an awards ceremony at The Art Workers' Guild, London, on 9 September. We wish Circle the very best of luck for the next stage.

🔦 Shining a Spotlight on Westwood House Child Contact Centre ✨

NACCC-accredited Westwood House Child Contact Centre recently welcomed their local MP, Sarah Russell, to showcase the vital support they provide to children and families following separation.

The visit came about thanks to one of the centre’s young volunteers, Sian, who met Sarah Russell MP at a university workshop and spoke about her role at the centre. Keen to learn more, Sarah visited to see first-hand the impact of contact centres and meet the dedicated team behind the service.

Based in Congleton, Cheshire, Westwood House has been supporting local families for over 25 years, providing a safe, warm, and welcoming space where children can spend time with non-resident parents and family members.

👏 Well done to the Westwood House team - your continued dedication makes a real difference for children, young people, and families in your community.
