On Tuesday 14th July Roydon Allen represented Friends And Bredrins (FAB) at the Imperial College London Prostate Cancer Labs to learn about Prostate Cancer Research, interact with research scientists and witness cutting edge science.

Several speakers spoke about cells, drug resistance in cells, and their research. During a tour of the labs, we witnessed DNA extraction from human cancer cells.

On Sunday 12th July, Live Good Nottingham CIC hosted a fantastic event at the Broadway Cinema in Nottingham.

The evening featured the Nottingham premiere of "Milestone: Streets Paved with Gold," staring Victor Richards, a unique one-person play adapted for film. This was followed by a Q&A session.

The event also marked the second anniversary of Dominoes for Health. Several FAB members attended the celebration, and our stall received excellent feedback from guests. It was a wonderful evening of entertainment and community celebration.

FAB attended the UCL Patient and Public Involvement Day at the Francis Crick Institute, London on Monday 22nd June.

Dr. Des presented and facilitated the attendance of George, Joe, Roydon, Wayne, and Rodney.

Dr. Des's presentation once again delivered a clinically precise, on-point, and informative overview of the protocols surrounding the testing and trialling of medicines to achieve satisfactory outcomes for patients.

Several notable speakers from the medical research sector delivered useful information on the procedures involved in gathering data for the purpose of medical advancement. This also included personal accounts from patients with stories of their involvement in the participation experience.
Dr. Alan Hacksaw closed the conference with an interactive workshop, which was an eye-opener and, once again, full of useful insights into accepted norms for satisfactory medicinal outcomes, and those considered unacceptable.

🎗️ Big news for men's health! The government has just announced a £20 million package to expand prostate cancer research and treatment — a major step forward in tackling one of the most common cancers affecting men in the UK.

We're expanding research, widening treatment options and tackling inequalities in prostate cancer care.

✅ All eligible Black men will be invited to join a landmark screening trial.

✅ A targeted NHS screening programme will also be rolled out.

Following receipt of the King's Award for Voluntary Service, two FAB trustees (Dr Des Powe and Mr Roydon Allen) represented FAB at a Garden Party held at Buckingham Palace, in the presence of His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

At the FAB'S KAVS Award presentation celebration, an engraved crystal souvenir and scripted plaque was presented by Nottinghamshire's Lord Lieutenant Veronica Pickering,with Craig Parkin Nottingham Chief Fire Officer.
Excellent food and drinks were on offer which was enjoyed by everyone.

Today the UK National Screening Committee (UKNSC) have recommended:

against population screening for men (at any age)
against screening for Black men
against screening for men with a family history
in favour of screening men with a known gene variant of BRCA1 and BRCA2
Friends & Bredrins Prostate Cancer Support Group support Prostate Cancer UK (PCUK) in calling for a national screening program and feeding back any concerns about why/how the UKNSC have reached that conclusion.
