Harmless

Harmless Harmless is the National Centre of Excellence for Self-Harm and Suicide Prevention. We know that with the right support and help, life can get better.

Harmless was founded by Caroline and Amy in October 2007, the duo, both with their own experiences used this and their passion to help others to turn the service from a dream into a reality. We are an all age, user led organisation, that provides a range of services about self harm including support, information, training and consultancy to people to self harm, their friends, families and professi

onals. We are people who understand self harm and at the heart of our service is a real sense of hope. We believe in hope and recovery. What support do we offer? We offer two streams of support for people that do or are at risk of self harm. These services are equal in terms of quality and skill of the workforce, but differ in terms of approach and the length of time that people can access them. Clinical Support Work draws upon the expertise of a specialist self harm organisation and works to provide a stabilisation intervention to those who self harm. We also have a team of qualified therapists that deliver a range of therapy opportunities to our service users. Trained across different therapy approaches we can provide short term, long term, and sometimes group psychotherapy

We can deliver support through multiple methods including: face to face, phone, online video support, email and post. We have a number of Clinical Support Workers and Therapists based in Nottinghamshire, Bassetlaw, Leicestershire and Rutland delivering one-one weekly emotional and practical support. Training and Information? Harmless has a specialist in-house training department called Let’s Talk Training. Our Specialist Training Team deliver a range of courses round the issues of self harm, suicide prevention, awareness and bereavement and mental health. We also produce a number of leaflets and resources about self harm aimed at improving awareness of self harm, challenging stigma and helping people move towards a better quality of life. We tend to think choirs are for singers. They aren’t – they’re for everyone. If your week feels like a loud room you can't escape, or conversely, a space that’s entirely too quiet, the doors to our Choir for Hope are open. We have people who come to sing every note perfectly, and people who come because the silence at home is getting a bit too heavy.

There’s no audition. No expectation to perform. Just a room full of people creating something together. Come as you are – even if you’re tired. Especially if you’re tired.

We next meet on Tuesday 2nd June 2pm–3.30pm at East Leake Pavilion, Costock Road, East Leake, Loughborough LE12 6LY.

For full details, see https://harmless.org.uk/our-services/choir-for-hope/

We hope you can join us.

As Dementia Action Week draws to a close, our colleague Leanne shares a powerful personal story about love and navigating dementia with family. Her heartfelt reflection on supporting her Nan highlights why awareness, compassion and support matter so much.

By Leanne Moulton (Chief Academy Officer) There are moments when someone you love starts to slip away. Not all at once, but in fragments. Whether that’s a forgotten birthday, a misplaced name or a confused look that lingers too long. For many families like mine, these early signs of dementia are b...

For this week's blog, our CEO Caroline offers a compassionate guide to the recent EHRC changes, what they mean in practice and where trans, non-binary and gender-expansive people can find support right now. You belong, and you are not alone.

By Caroline Harroe (Harmless CEO) The release of the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s (EHRC) updated Code of Practice can feel like a heavy weight to carry. For many in the trans, non-binary and gender-expansive community, reading headlines about the exclusion of trans people from single-sex...

At Harmless, HR is more than policies – it’s about people, wellbeing and building a workplace where teams feel valued and able to thrive. On International HR Day, our colleague Darren shares why good HR matters in creating healthier workplaces.

Harmless is profoundly frustrated with the Department for Education's disgraceful new SEND campaign featuring Gemma Collins, which resembles a cheap soap opera rather than a serious strategy.
