Ekukhanyeni Nutrition Garden Agricultural Cooperative Society in Zimbabwe is a climate resilient community-owned enterprise.

The current crops are the second cycle since the Greenhouse was commissioned last December.

Thanks to three churches in Nottingham North and friends of Compassion for Communities who donated funds towards the Greenhouse construction and water supply system upgrade.

After the sales of the flourishing cucumbers and mixed peppers, a Monitoring and Evaluation report will capture the impact of this project on the gardeners’ households and the wider community.

Strategic partnerships are vital for good success. Ekukhanyeni Nutrition Garden Cooperative is developing a partnership with Midlands State University through the faculty of Agriculture and Agronomy.

Last week a team from the university visited the garden to train the gardeners on nursery management to increase seed germination rates and raising robust, healthy seedlings to yield a better crop compared to direct planting.

2025 ended on a high note for our community garden in Mkhombo Village, Lower Gweru, Midlands Province in Zimbabwe.

The 10x50m Greenhouse completed in June, was officially handed over to the now registered Cooperative at a Commissioning Ceremony held on the 12th of December.

A healthy crop of Cucumbers growing in the Greenhouse is being picked for the market as of the first week of 2026.

The high-value infrastructure and crops growing in the garden require more security against malicious damage and theft.

The current fence offers no deterrent for thieves and vandals.

£2500 will pay for the materials and labour to erect a lockable gate and 400m of security fence around the garden.
