🐘🦈 A Young Explorer Inspires Carlton Rotary! 🦁🌍

At our meeting on Thursday 23rd July, we were delighted to welcome a very special guest – Cathy, aged just 9 years old, the daughter of our Joint President, Charlotte.

Cathy gave us a wonderful presentation about her family's amazing adventure to South Africa. She confidently shared her experiences of seeing incredible wildlife and marine life, including lions, sharks, starfish and many other fascinating animals. Her enthusiasm, knowledge and confidence captivated everyone in the room.

It was a real pleasure to hear about her travels through the eyes of a young adventurer. Cathy is a credit to herself and her family, and we would like to thank her for taking the time to share such a memorable and inspiring evening with us.

Thank you, Cathy – we hope you'll come back and tell us about your next adventure! 🌍✨

Helping out The Friends of King George V Recreation Park (Standhill Park) at their community Picnic in the Park today. Stalls, games, ice cream and a brass band - perfect recipe for a family afternoon out.

Yesterday Evening, members of Carlton Rotary were delighted to welcome Vikki Jones, who gave an inspiring and informative presentation about her work with Arts at NUH .

Vikki shared how arts and creative activities are making a real difference across Nottingham University Hospitals, helping to enhance patient wellbeing, support staff, and create more welcoming healthcare environments. It was fascinating to learn about the positive impact that art can have on people's experiences during what can often be challenging times.

Thank you, Vikki, for taking the time to join us and for the incredible work you and the Arts at NUH team do in our local hospitals. We greatly enjoyed hearing about the projects and initiatives that are helping to bring creativity, comfort, and connection to patients, visitors, and staff alike.

✨ An Inspiring Evening with Emmanuel House ✨

Yesterday evening, we were delighted to welcome Isabella Harriss, CEO of Emmanuel House Support Centre, Nottingham , who spoke to us about the incredible work they do supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our community.

Isabella shared powerful insights into the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness, and how Emmanuel House provides not just practical support, but dignity, compassion and hope.

It was a truly inspiring talk and a reminder of the difference organisations like Emmanuel House make every single day.

A huge thank you to Isabella for giving up her time to be with us – we are very grateful.

Carlton Rotary Handover Evening

Carlton Rotary recently came together for a special evening to celebrate the end of a successful Rotary year and to look ahead with excitement to the next.

We were proud to say a heartfelt thank you to our Joint Outgoing Presidents, David Falkner and Tony Mellor, for their outstanding leadership, dedication, and commitment over the past year. Their guidance has helped strengthen our club, support our community, and truly embody Rotary’s spirit of Service Above Self.

As we reflect on a fantastic year, we are equally delighted to welcome our new Joint Presidents, Charlotte Mitchell and Paul Hicking, as they begin their leadership journey for the 2026–2027 Rotary year.

Charlotte and Paul bring fresh ideas, energy, and a shared vision for the future. Their plans for the year ahead are inspiring, and we are excited about the opportunities to grow, support local causes, and make an even greater impact in our community.

With the Rotary International theme “Create Lasting Impact” guiding us, we look forward to another year of friendship, service, and positive change.

Here’s to a fantastic year ahead for Carlton Rotary!

🌟 Speaker – 18th June 🌟

At our recent meeting, we were delighted to welcome Father Lee Dunleavy from Saint Cyprian's Church, Nottingham
We first connected with St. Cyprian’s when Lee approached Carlton Rotary for support in funding new chairs for the church. Already familiar with Rotary and the work we do in the community, Lee shared how important it is to bring people together through both faith and local initiatives.
His talk, “My Life in the Church,” was truly inspiring. From learning the piano at an early age to becoming a highly accomplished organist, Lee went on to study music at Oxford before working as a freelance conductor and composer in Cambridge, London, and York Minster.
Now settled in Nottingham with his wife Sally and stepdaughter Charlotte, Lee is passionate about strengthening community connections through his work at St. Cyprian’s.
We were also fascinated to hear that St. Cyprian’s has been selected as a ‘First Eco’ experimental church, featuring solar panels and a heat pump—an exciting step towards a more sustainable future 🌱

💜 Carlton Rotary supporting Rainbows 💜
Members of Carlton Rotary were delighted to support Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People at East Bridgford Garden Centre.
With a fantastic display of toys, gifts and information, our volunteers helped raise awareness and funds for this incredible charity, which provides vital care and support to babies, children and young people with serious and terminal conditions.
A big thank you to everyone who stopped by, donated, or took the time to learn more about the amazing work Rainbows does. Your generosity truly helps brighten short lives. 🌈
