In partnership with Mimm Studios & Phlexx Records, Nottingham C.A.N is delighted to announce that we have been successful in our application to join the ‘Industry Connect Coalition’.

We are looking for 18-25-year-olds, living in Nottingham, who would like to apply to our upcoming ‘Behind the Scenes’ program, which will join the wider national Youth Music Industry Connect Coalition

‘The Industry Connect Coalition’ is a collaborative initiative that brings together key players across the creative industries to drive long-term change. The Coalition aims to break down barriers to entry in the music and wider creative industries, creating more accessible, inclusive, and sustainable career pathways for young people from underrepresented backgrounds.

Focusing on local music industry career pathways, our program will offer successful applicants the opportunity to access music mentorship, attend work-experience placements and realise their own funded projects.

It’s pretty hard to put into words just how proud we are of every single student from the Beatknots Music Academy. Last Friday we had around 15 performances, some of which were young people’s first ever time on stage. The energy, the talent and the delivery was pretty emotional 🥲

A massive thank you to our spiritual home .studios 🍃

What a way to wrap up a three year program. Young people from across the City and County, coming today positively with music at the heart of it. All the love for our headliner whose set was beautiful 🎶

The Beatknots Music Academy Festival focused on exploring career pathways in the music industry whilst always showcasing work of people from our Beatknots Academy - this masterclass hit both ❤️

Hosted in .studios, we are buzzing for the final Masterclass of our festival as George Nash shines light on the mesmerising Guitar style. This is not one to be missed and starts at 4pm with our final showcase straight after from 6pm.

Finishing off the Beatknots Music Academy Festival, we are showcasing all the talent developed across the past 3 years of the program. With live band performances, DJ sets and solo acts we will be providing a stage for all students of the project to showcase their work.

Join us on Thursday from 6-8pm as we welcome Lee Bright from and Genre Fluid. Hosted in .studios, this Masterclass will look behind the music at industry roles in Publishing, Royalties and Label Management

Lee Bright is a music industry consultant and label executive with over 25 years’ experience spanning A&R, project management, royalties and commercial strategy.

Lee has worked for Cherry Red Records, and for two decades was Label Manager at BBE Music. He worked with globally respected artists including J Dilla, Du Jazzy Jeff, Ebo Taylor, Mark Ronson and will.i.am, alongside projects involving DU Premier, Dimitri From Paris, Carl Craig and Laurent Garnier.

LIVE: CELEBRATING YOUTH WORK MUSIC PRACTICE

An event for Youth Practitioners and Musicians in Nottingham and beyond. Celebrating Youth Work Music Practice and launching a new book. Hosted by from and Frances Howard from Nottingham Trent University.

This event is an opportunity for Youth Workers and Musicians to get together and share their practice. As well as asking each youth project to share the work they are doing, there will be a short talk from a new book that our Director and Frances Howard have contributed to called Youth Work, Music Production and Measurement.

It would be great to see some familiar faces and celebrate the great work that is going on with young people and music-making.

Food will be served from 6pm, with the opportunity for networking and listening to music by young people till 8pm

BBC Introducing / The Beat / Radio

Hosted in Mimm Studios, this Masterclass explores the career of legendary Radio Presenter Dean Jackson - whilst also highlighting the work of BBC Introducing. Directly after, with Dean in attendance, we will be hosting a listening session where people can submit their music to be played on our sound system and receive feedback

Dean Jackson is a key driver in discovering new music working with the national BBC Introducing team, providing a wider plattorm on Radio 1, 1Xtra and 6Music. Dean’s radio show The Beat has given very early exposure to many national and international artists such as The Killers, Coldplay, Ellie Goulding, Myles Smith and dozens more. Dean has also served as a judge on the prestigious Mercury Music Prize Panel and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate for his services to the loac music scene

Hosted in Mimm Studios, this Masterclass explores the work of one of Notts top-shootas, Event Photographer, Foto.bydan.

Dan Godward, (fotos.bydan) is a music photographer born in Glasgow, raised in Wakefield, and now based in Nottingham. Over the past two years he has worked in and around the underground dance music scene, capturing moments from within the Nottingham scene through of texture, colour and raw atmosphere. His work focuses on highlighting the true essence of local music scenes. In this masterclass he will be talking through his body of work, how he developed his personal styles and how he perceives the Event Photography industry
