Hi there, I am Fatu Kieta, a West African native and a strong advocate for women's rights. My passion is to uplift the living conditions of women in Africa, particularly in the areas of health, education, and teaching sustainable skills to poor rural women.
I am a firm believer that seeking knowledge is mandatory for both men and women. Women, who form the majority on the lower economic and social ladder due to a lack of education, should be educated on basic skills like reading and writing at an earlier age. This will improve their standard of living, reduce poverty, and malnutrition.
Since my move to London in 2006, it has been my calling to give back to my community and country, especially poor rural women who have no access to basic education and sustainable life skills. My ultimate goal is to empower women financially through education, as the big problem in West Africa is that most women cannot read and write. Mental independence is tough to achieve when you cannot even read and write. For instance, I met a lady from Gambia who lost her cleaning job in London because she couldn't fill out the application form properly.
In addition to education, I want to make a difference in the area of health and nutrition. Teaching women the importance of good nutrition is a value addition to improve their health. Too much oil and seasoning can lead to heart disease and other serious health problems. Furthermore, the mortality rate among pregnant women in Guinea, West Africa is disheartening. My sister passed away after childbirth due to lack of proper healthcare delivery systems, and many women still die every day in Guinea during childbirth. This is why I want to help reduce the number of fatalities by establishing a center that provides free scans to pregnant women who cannot afford hospital fees and avoid childbirth complications that often lead to death.
